A Bielefelder Thread !

Hi there! My step-mother and I are looking to split a hatch of these sometime at the end of the year and I was wondering if anyone has had them in Florida? I'd love to have them but I keep finding conflicting info on their heat tolerance. Step mom lives in southern Indiana so I think they would be OK there since its a little more temperate.
Yes, I do believe GFF is located in the panhandle of FL. Just make sure they have shade and lots of it with good ventilation in the coop. I live in Central North Carolina and we get hot in the summers. I give my crew a mister hose when it gets really hot and that seems to help. But they do struggle with the heat, no doubt about that. My Marans just glide on through the hot spells (much like my husband who is a third generation Miamian) but my Biels are a different story (much like me who hails from Western Pennsylvania)!

Thank you for the tips! I knew gff was southern but they have some pricey lines so I figured they'd have state of the art equipment. I'll be building a 50X20 pole barn across the back halves of my breeding pens this summer with electric so the turkeys have an accessible fan and everyone has more shade. I will definitely not be venturing into this breed until I have that completed now that I know they require a little more tlc.

Had an email from GFF that the Biels and the Nieds we ordered aren't coming on this order (hatching today!) and we could do a swap or wait until all were available. Opted for a swap and I'm waiting to hear if it'll work... opted for Reese Legbars and Barnvelders of either size. Second choice was waiting until all were available.

We have Legbars of their lines available locally for a reasonable price, so didn't feel compelled to include them with the order. Buuuuuut... wasn't crazy about delaying the entire shipment for two breeds.

Will try again later!

My bielefelder eggs hatched on Saturday (of 11 eggs, 8 were fertile, and 7 hatched). Very excited, as I got 3 males and 4 females. The auto-sexing trait made it all the much more fun for my first incubator hatch, and they are all in good health. Can't wait to see how well they turn out!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! And Amen to the autosexing - I love knowing what genders they are once they dry off!

No fair! You can't brag without showing pics LOL!

Had to try and snap somewhat clear pictures. They wouldn't stop chirping and trying to escape!
