texasmomma, how old were your Bielefelders when they started laying?
About 7 months. 28-30 weeks
I don't have bielefelders but about a third of my pullets laid their first egg or two on the coop floor. But eventually started using the nest box and never went back.
Greenfire Farms Bielefelder cockeral, Crested Cream Legbar roo, GFF Biel pullet.
Look at the size of these Bielefelders! Not yet crowing or laying - hatched in July. Some of the cockerals will be heading to freezer camp with the turkeys next week.
Our Bielefelders are troopers even with all this up and down weather they are still laying eggs, not as many but still eggs.
I like the coop in your avatar
Thank's, it is one style of coop that I build, and sell.
Mine usually do that, too. But the bielefelders are continuing to lay on the floor. I can't get them to lay in the boxes, even when I show them where to lay. It's frustrating.
Any Biele breeders in Indiana or adjacent states? PM me if you are, or know of anyone. Thanks.
