A Bielefelder Thread !

I am interested in this too. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new incubator and was looking at the Brinsea octogan 20. If dry works, it would seem to make sense to just go with the Eco instead of the advance. I am going with the turner regardless. Thoughts?

I do about 30-40% for the first 18 days and then up to 65%, when I can get the humidity to do what it's supposed to do.

I really miss my Brinsea and I think you can't go wrong with any of them. My mini advance has been a workhorse.

The majority of the these are a bielefelder X cream legbar cross.

The three in the incubator are my sick bay. LOL The tiny one was shrink wrapped and it looks like I need to bandaid her feet. The other two had/have splay legs and get picked on when I put them in the general population. ;/

My thermostat reads the humidity and it says LO so it can't even register the humidity. So mine is under 20%. I used to keep it at 30% but then I just gave up didn't seem to make a difference one way or the other.

I think all of my bielefelder eggs left are dead.

That's actually similar to what I did with this Biel hatch, but I started by weighing the eggs before putting them in the incubator and then with every candling and adjusted the humidity based upon the amount of weight lost. Up through day 18 I kept my humidity around 45% on average and then raised it to 65-70% for lockdown. It wasn't quite a "dry" incubation, but it was drier than I'd previously done, and I had a 100% hatch rate of the eggs I'd locked down.

I also did this my first time for my last hatch.
I had 10/12 make it to lockdown(1 was accidental cracked and would have made it other wise)
I had 8/10 make it out of the Incubator ( I didn't wait long enough for the last two)
So basically if I didn't accidentally crack 1 and get impatient with the last 2 I would have had 11/12 hatch.
All the other hatches I've previously done were at 45% or lower.

Anyone have any chicks for sale they are willing to ship this time of year? I am looking for pullets. I have done two batches of mailed eggs from two separate breeders and out of a total of 30 eggs, I have a total of 3 chicks.... So I would prefer to skip the shipped egg method. Thanks.
