Does the radio really work. I'm afraid of the bear attacking my flock again. If I put a radio on at night do you think it will keep bears away or attract them.

I should give it a try. I also want to try to post few pictures on the brooder/coop when to chick 1st hatch and see if they are friendlier to human when older.

That works too, a little, they get used to human voices.

Depends on how hungry the bears are, and what kinda dinner y'all just had.
bears can smell for MILES and if you just had a Bar-be-cue...well, I'd say even Led Zeppelin couldn't run off that bear...maybe AC/DC could though..............or Ozzy, or that little band from Texas.................

OK, bielefelder update !

Yesterday we had NPIP here, and most of you know how that goes.
You run around catching birds from various coops (minimum of 30) and withdraw blood, swab mouths...and release the bird back.
It took a few hours, and then I let the flocks calm down.

This morning my Biel hens either did not lay 1 egg or they spit out 2 or more all connected, the first egg hard shelled with twisted material connected to the next soft shelled egg and the next one just a yolk.
Blow out.
See if I can find a photo.


OK this is the first egg...barely had any shell, twisted material to the next, and so on.

But moral of the story:
Trauma can really upset the bird's lay, and these biels may be shooting stars, with early lay burn out.
I hope not cuz I love them.
Anyone else have this happen or am I just lucky ?
