A Bielefelder Thread !

Depends on how hungry the bears are, and what kinda dinner y'all just had.
bears can smell for MILES and if you just had a Bar-be-cue...well, I'd say even Led Zeppelin couldn't run off that bear...maybe AC/DC could though..............or Ozzy, or that little band from Texas.................:gig

I live a few houses down from a house turned sports bar. I've been told the bear go for their dumpsters and cross my property to get back. I saw more bears before we had the chickens. Then a very young one saw an easy opportunity. You are so right about bar-b-cue.

I've heard Mozart helps them lay more.
My research claimed Mozart increases intelligence especially during study/school work/homework. May be a good way to get higher grades from our children?

P.S. Chickens are already too smart but kids need all the help they can get!

YEAH! Great results for my first big hatch of the season. Almost all three dozen hatched chubby and active, with no defects noted. I had a

few late quitters, and a few that stalled in pip.

But -- oh my -- look at all the roosters!

Hens in this group are spoken for but many more in the incubators are on their way.

Anyone need a nice collection of roosters to choose from PM me.

I could use a few from a different line....but where/how far are ya ?
I guess I can look it up.
We do go to NorCal every so many months, with the last trip just a few weeks ago....

Maybe it was after the 100th time one of them flew straight up and hit me in the face in a blind panic every time I came into the pen to feed them even when I moved slowly and tried not to walk too close to them as if they were wild animals. (I raised them as chicks same as everyone else)

and how they crashed about stupidly breaking feathers and eggs and knocking themselves even more stupid thinking I was going to kill them if I even looked at them sideways

Right now I only have two pullets left who are being raised by NORMAL friendly hens instead of their own kind, and they are much calmer. Nervous and dingy still, but not psycho!

Please warn me about any other breeds like this so I DON'T buy any!!!!

Ok, so, are these Wheaten or Golden Duckwing ?
And do you think they have the same personalities ?
Given the egg color, I am wondering if they don't have a healthy dose of Mediteranean in them ...like LegHorn ?

Speaking of voices, does the Biefeleder adult hen have a standard chicken cluck? I've seen numerous videos of the rooster voice, but not so much for the hens.

Here is the parent group. They were from Greenfire. I had several of the red (do not know color names for that breed sorry) roosters from that group originally but preferred the cream. No temperament differences though between colors. All sold now including the pullets (yeah!!) The light hens were very pretty as they had a blue down underneath.

I purchase 1 bielefelder hen today. She is so calm and friendly. It reminds me of some strains of old RIR and Silver Grey Dorking.
