A Bielefelder Thread !

I have only two words... Electric Fence. Not sure if this has come up on this thread before but a properly rated electric fence is the best deterrent for all predators except flying ones. Simple, relatively inexpensive and there 24/7.

This has been my experience as well !!!! (the only thing it won't deter would be cougars as they can jump 18 feet strait up.)

We are working on the electric fence. Hope to have it all up by fall. Just wanted something in the meantime. I know others in my area that use electric fence for their bee hives and it does not always work. If a bear really wants something nothing but a guardian dog stops it.

How about just leave the radio on out there all day?

I was thinking of that too, just not sure if it would eventually attract them or not.

These are all great ideas. We use a radio and have our lights and radios on automatic timers that can be bought around $10 each. We have 3 that we use for vacations, etc. Lights and radios and TVs come on at different times of the day/night as you choose to stagger them. Electric fence is nice against predators but our birds like to hear the radio voices/music too. My breeder said she pipes in classical music and says she has "cultured" birds lol.

We have built a dog run off the side of the livestock mini barn...with a doggie door, a big doggie door.
Besides the radio on in the window (which used to be our kitchen) Jack is usually inside lazing about on his deluxe king size dog bed.
If he hears a stick crunch...he blasts out of the doggie door & scares the you-know-what outta whatever is out there.

Jack is a bone headed 1/2 Pyrenees 1/2 something -like-maybe-a standard poodle ? Aussie ? And Jack is BIG.
There is nothing that can protect your stock or home like a good dog !

I never expected that at just 6 weeks of age, my Biel cockerels would start trying to crow. Granted, they sound more like old women screaming, but they're trying.
