A Bielefelder Thread !

The German Youtuber I posted some vid from here, had one of the girls broody. They put her in a run on her own for two days but in the end the neighbours lawn mover that scared her over the fance to her flock and out of broodiness.
When you want hen raised chicks I would buy an smaller ornamental or game breed. A "big" Silky or an Old English hen would make a good mum for your Bielefelders. Heavy breeds like Brahmas go broody, too but you always have the risk that they crush some eggs when they are nesting in a box.

I did my best to search for bielefelders and their mothering abilities, i even used a german translator in hope of widening my search. I only found this you tuber, Tierkanal Nutztiere usw.
They have one hen that seems to have raised chicks, and it is a dwarf/bantam bielefelder.

This is a comparison between my golden sex links eggs and my Bielefelders eggs. The Bielefelders eggs are actually to big for the large store cartons.

Wow, how long have your bieles been laying? I only got one egg that was to big for the carton, so far they are 50-55g, but she has only been laying for about 3 weeks.

Thanks TN for the reassurance on the tail position. =]
AND
DRUMROLL...

I got a new Biel boy today.

How cute! He might get lonely though, you can get him a stuffed animal friend, they have some stuffed ducks in the dog toy sections of stores that look nice. I don't think they have any chickens though.

I actually was just talking to a chicken friend and she said the same thing about him being lonely. I really only have coop space for one more so i didn't want to get two but I asked her if she would take to other bird if I got another and she said maybe so I'm thinking on it.
