A Bielefelder Thread !

I usually have the most luck with them when I hold them for a bit first to calm them, and then gently place them where I want to photograph them....and then I take A LOT of photos so I can select the best one for documenting.

I'll have to do that =] thanks

Not going to be long before he needs bigger digs!!!  VERY stately looking!

I was just thinking that. Last go round I put them in my bath tub once they outgrew the small brooder. I may end up divorced if I do that again lol gonna have to buy a much much larger Tupperware I think

Yup! Been there, done that with dogs! I had an attached (to the house) kennel of Lhasas and that worked out fine in my 30's and 40's. I pretty much took my 50's off (family matters), and now I'm in my 60's and getting into chickens! Thank goodness my husband tolerates the chickens MUCH better than the dogs!!!!

If I need a close up, I hold the chick in one hand & take the pic with the other. If you want them to look at you, just shake the treat jar.

My DD had a fun idea for a brooder. She made one out of old school project posters. The base was some plastic container with a feed bag liner cut to fit.

My fav brooder is an old rabbit cage. (Can't fly out)
Dog crates may also work - but if wire sides, then make sure the bar spacing is small enough or add a barrior.

In summer, I use my son's toddler play yard to give the chicks some grass time on nice days. A lightweight board, foam, or cardboard keeps them in & others out.

If you can't re-purpose something you already own, thrift stores are great for finding pet carriers, dog crates, & many items that can be made into a perfect brooder.

I guess I should add that my son is now 5 & he no longer needs his baby play yard. LOL

Edited to add: Some strange images came to mind when I thought of an infant using a chick as a teether.

Best not to house them together.
