A Bielefelder Thread !

^ Mine are laying about the same as yours DC. Back in the summer I was getting way more eggs. Sometimes 8 a day. Now it's 1-2 per day. It's like you say, they just stopped laying. I don't know whether to wait it out and see what happens, wait till spring or what.

I think its because they are from greenfirefarms. I think GFF was breeding for egg production. I'm shocked myself at their egg laying. Did you get your bieles from GFF?

I bought hatching eggs from two separate breeders and hatched them myself. Technically, all of the birds are from GFF, though I suspect that getting them directly from GFF is a much better option and would give me better birds. I had originally planned on buying some chicks directly from them next spring, but given how hard it was for my flock to get through the summer I'm reconsidering it.

Yeah, it might be better to buy a heat hardy chicken breed next spring if you are going to buy some more chicks. I had a little problems with mine, but they did ok. I don't live in the desert though. I did a search and these chickens are supposed to have great heat tolerance, they look cool to! Appenzeller Spitzhauben, Golden Campine, Egyptian Fayoumi

I've actually got a lot of chickens already, including Barred Rocks, White Rocks, Naked Neck Turkens, Frizzled and Smooth Easter Eggers, Australorps, Dorking mixes, Silkies, and a few barnyard mixes along with my Bielefelders, so I probably won't be buying any more breeds any time soon.

All of my birds did really well in the AZ heat except the Biels....but I've absolutely no regrets about getting some. My Bielefelder roosters are the best boys I could ever hope to own...even if my very snuggly Biel hens are proving a bit disappointing.

Wow, you sure do have a lot of chickens!
 
On another note.

A few months ago we were discussing fertility/mating among our flocks. It's not good at all with my birds.
I don't know whether it's the cockerels or the hens. I set 80 eggs over a few weeks time and hatched only 16 chicks.
I think there was maybe one or two quitters and the rest weren't fertile or never started.
