A Bielefelder Thread !

Okay....I managed to snap a few photos of my Bielefelder/Silkie crosses and am happy to post them as requested.

Here's my favorite cockerel, Jordi. He's larger than the average bantam but not quite full-sized and has a wonderful Biel-like disposition. His barring and deeper coloring is becoming more prominent. He has 5 toes per foot and his leg color is sort of a pale blue. And that comb! It mostly looks like a rose comb but has this weird single-comb look at the top...too strange! I will probably cross him over my pure Biel girls in the future....once he's mature enough and "well-mannered" with girls. (That's Jordi's mother in the background...or at least part of her.)

And here are my pullets....Poppy (with the orange band) and Uno (no band)....and my only bantam Naked Neck sneaked into one of the shots too. The girls definitely favor the coloring of their Buff Silkie mother and I'm looking forward to breeding them to their Uncle Hansel (Bielefelder) to improve upon the Biel qualities. Both girls have blue legs/feet with five toes, though Poppy's fifth toe is fused on one foot. Uno has a wonderfully friendly personality, and Poppy is skittish. I'm hoping to improve on their "affectionate" tendencies through continual breeding.

Poppy (and friend, Weesie):
Love them! Still think they look like Orange CLs.

This is my one of my favorite photos of my favorite Bielefelder, Bosch.

He's a super snuggly rooster who loves to sit on my lap and fall asleep while I pet him, and lately he has even begun to give me "hugs" by resting his head on my shoulder. He's my special guy, and as this photo shows, usually walks to me as soon as he sees me.

Awesome background. Great photo!!

We were just discussing the white sickle feather on Bielefelder roosters and I saw a picture of some Crele Marans Bev Davis bred and the roosters had white sickle feathers as well. This seems to be a very common issue with birds that had the Crele color pattern. Are there other breeds/Hybrids that have this same issue? I know I have seen in in the Cream Lebars as well.

Boy I hope my little young'un turns out as handsome! He's only about 6 weeks old now, so he's still kind of a puff ball...

Love the Arizona sky. I love that place. I have land in Wickenburg but live in Florida. Bosch is beautiful. My little (tongue in cheek) cockerel is such a sweetheart. I was proud of him the other day, the CLs have been mean to him (he is about a week younger) but recently he has started to stand up for himself. Maybe you remember my dilemma when I couldn't get them to stop roosting on the porch in a dog crate. Well.... I finally got them to agree to sleep in a little coop. We now have a new routine, near bedtime they roost under the porch and wait. I call to them saying it is bedtime and they walk over to the coop with me. They are calm and trusting. 6 pullets and the cockerel, very cute.

Desertchic,

Chicken math, shmicken math!!! You should have seen his face last night when I told him that Buffy was now sitting on 12 hatching eggs. Of course I told him that I had a plan! Now he is wondering about the tax benefits of farming... not surprised, he grew up in the Adirondacks!

Your birds are gorgeous!
