A Bielefelder Thread !

From what I have read, it could be gape worm. Wouldn't hurt to check it out. Symptoms do sound similar.

I have to admit that this is a new one for me and I had to look it up....but I'm not sure that they symptoms being displayed by Strudel, and now others in her flock, are indicative of parasitic infection. It seems more viral or bacterial to me....not that I'm an expert in any way.

Crap - others are now having problems???? Boy, you and yours are in my prayers...

Okay, here's my funny story for the day...

Maybe it's because we just had a nasty heatwave with temps of 99ºF and now the daytime temp has dropped by 25 degrees, but my Biels acted as if they were starving this morning and couldn't get to the feed dish fast enough. They were unusually forceful and chased away a number of my other birds so they could dominate the feed dish. And then it happened.....as my Biel hen, Zoey, gulped down mouthfuls of food, a massive egg came out of her bum. At the last second she tucked her pelvis enough to lessen the impact before it hit the ground, but never missed a beat in feeding. Three other hens of other breeds crowded around the egg and began singing, and then Zoey whipped around and just stared at the egg, seemingly confused about where it had come from for a moment, and then began singing at the top of her lungs and strutting her stuff. I laughed so hard I scared the chickens!

Oh, I am SOOOOO happy! Good goin' Zoey!!!!!

DesertChic I want to ask your opinion about a little chick, more fun than serious! I gave a woman some eggs to eat. She incubated them and one chick hatched. She called and asked me to take the chick. My first grandbaby and my first Easter Egger. The chick came from a blue egg. Judging by it's cute cheek muffs it has an Ameraucana in the mix and the blue egg. But who's the baby daddy? I have three roosters, Biel, Cream Legbar and black Ameraucana. Of course, I welcome any opinions just thought DesertChic has some experience with Beil mixes! The down is starting to look a little blue underneath or dark grey. She I think she is a she, has yellow feet and Ameraucanas have Slate/white skin..

Our Black Silkie was walking across the kitchen floor and dropped an egg mid-stridge. She looked behind her at the noise hitting the floor and then just kept on walking! Another time when she was indoors because of illness we had a diaper on her. She layed an egg in the diaper and the diaper dragged along the floor as she walked. Silly chickens!
