Okay, here's my funny story for the day...
Maybe it's because we just had a nasty heatwave with temps of 99ºF and now the daytime temp has dropped by 25 degrees, but my Biels acted as if they were starving this morning and couldn't get to the feed dish fast enough. They were unusually forceful and chased away a number of my other birds so they could dominate the feed dish. And then it happened.....as my Biel hen, Zoey, gulped down mouthfuls of food, a massive egg came out of her bum. At the last second she tucked her pelvis enough to lessen the impact before it hit the ground, but never missed a beat in feeding. Three other hens of other breeds crowded around the egg and began singing, and then Zoey whipped around and just stared at the egg, seemingly confused about where it had come from for a moment, and then began singing at the top of her lungs and strutting her stuff. I laughed so hard I scared the chickens!
