Quote: What do you think she is? Possible combinations are Biel, Cream Legbar, Ameraucana. Cheeks - Ameraucana? Body by Biel? LOL Green and Yellow legs! She is an Easter Egger! She is the first chick ever from my eggs. A woman got eating eggs and incubated them. This is the only chick that hatched. Keep your fingers crossed for a pullet so I can keep her, she is very sweet.![]()
No sign of her...... I have to put on some serious clothing and go thru the woods, filled with sticker vines and bushes, snakes, swamp, etc. The last time I lost one hen I found a pile of feathers across a small creek that feeds the lake. My Biels are very big hens and I have over 60 8 week olds out there. It is odd the predator got her unless it was a big one. Bobcat or coyote during the day I would guess.... but why didn't it come back for seconds?
Quote: No that is what I hope.... but everyone here says Biels don't go broody. I did see one hen wondering around in the grown up part of the back forty a few days ago, I will try to find her. They can roam my 20 acres, my neighbor's many acres, my sister's 30 if they really wanted to hide. They are usually in a five-acre area around my house. No...... I take that back, they are usually on my porch leaving evidence of their presence everywhere!![]()
Looking at the tail I am going with Biel. I can't wait to see her face when she is a little older! From those combos I would guess Ameraucana (color of the legs give that away) & Bielefelder or Legbar. Both have similar colored feather patterns, so it would depend on size.
Yesterday one of my hens walked to a water bucket that I had just emptied to clean. I went on with my work and she kept walking between the water bucket and me. I put down what I was doing and filled the bucket for her. It is I that is highly trainable and each knows exactly how to get what they need and want from me.![]()
@Faraday40 Your Cuddles was a jewel of a hen. Looks like she liked to pose. Hugs to you, and many thanks for your kind words.Sending some Good Hatching Vibes your way!
Bielefelders are a great breed. I was hoping to keep & breed some, but it just didn't work out. For now I'm happy to have hatched one pullet.
We still have our spunky Cookie (nickname: the Bantam Menace). We also added another bantam- a sebright named Trouble. Those 2 add a lot of fun to the flock, but nothing beats the big lap birds when you want chicken cuddles.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
