You need to replace the chicken wire with hardware cloth. I found out the hard way earlier in the year. Other than that, hi and welcome home to BYC. Enjoy your flock.

Hi, I actually just have chicken wire around the base of the 8X8 ft covered chicken pen, which I purchased from Tractor Supply, to cover the 1.5 inch spaces between the sections. The coop, which locks at night, is located inside that pen so that we have double security. The 8x8 pen is inside a large roaming yard where we let them out during the day. That fence is made with the hardware cloth. They seem pretty safe and have lots of room to scratch and explore.
