A bit of an emergency for the Two Old Fools

How funny

Looking forward to reading lots more of the kittens adventures!!

Can you believe our foster kittens are now 7 weeks old?

So this is what is happening to them...

The two little sisters have homes waiting for them, found by the local shelter, in Germany! The little boy, the runt of the litter, has stolen our hearts and we can't bear to part with him. We call him Choccy-Paws and he's so affectionate and funny.

We are taking MumCat to be sterilised even though she belongs to a Spanish family in the village. They don't mind and at least it means she won't produce any more kittens. They only come up at weekends so we'll look after her when they are not there. She spends more time with us anyway, so it makes sense.

I've put together another YouTube video of them. Look out for Choccy-Paws - he's the one carrying his favourite fluffy mouse toy. Can you see why we couldn't resist him?

(The video is better with volume turned up.)

Hi Victoria, so glad you are keeping the little boy! You won't be sorry. LOL I so enjoyed reading the Village News. Hope all is going well there? glad you are spaying mama cat, she will be a wonderful pet.

Foster kitten Update:

We're definitely keeping Choccy-Paws, and the little sisters have an almost definite new home together in Germany! The German lady is going to call them Milly and Mia.

Wow, are they growing fast, but still sneak a feed from Mum when she lets them. (They are 8 weeks old now.)

Thank you for planning to have mama (mum!) cat spayed. Not only will it prevent a bunch more kittens that there aren't guaranteed homes (or food) for but it will also keep mum much more healthy as cats who are not spayed and who have multiple litters are well documented to get far more cancers, deadly cancers.

You may have had kitties spayed before...but for the benefit of any readers who may not and who may be interested... a just-spayed female kitty needs to be housed somewhere safe and quiet where she can be watched for a handful of days after the spaying as she'll be weak at first and needs to be watched for infection (easily treated with antibiotic if necessary) but in a few days or a week's time she'll be just fine (while recuperating, need food/water/litterbox [with shredded newspaper not cat litter] very close at hand). It takes a good day for the anesthesia to wear off, another reason for keeping them close at hand initially. The boy kitties are much easier - snip, snip at the vets and almost the very same day they are oblivious that it ever happened (tho because of the anesthesia they do need to be kept close at hand for at least 24 hours after surgery). Ideally, boy kitties should be neutered at 8 months of age (just before they are fertile) and girls spayed at 6 months of age (just before they can get preggers). Of course, this is not always possible - later is by far better than never.

You are doing a wonderful service and I am glad everyone is in your good and compassionate hands.
JJ
