a black bear got 2 of my 9 wk olds yesterday!

Deb, bears are omnivores, they will eat in most cases the easiest things possible and anything possible.

of course in spring and fall are the worst times as many berries and such vegetation are not growing, so they take what ever thay can get.

Here in pa there where studies that showed them killing young fawn deer in late spring, i believe the study was done a few years back for the PGC.

I will check you-tube out tonight..Got to get out and finish up a coop im working on..

Oh Hey Charlie I didn't realize who you are or where you're from.... Nice looking place! I'd actually had wanted to come out there & get my BO's from you guys a few weeks ago but didn't have time and couldn't have 15 of them here. Anyway I ended up getting some from a local poultry store but this is such an addictive thing "chickens" & I don't mind saying ever since I've check out you & Jodi's site I'm like SO tempted for more..... LOL I told myself no more till next spring when I've REALLY got things under control here with the electric fence.... But I don't mind saying the little BO''s were so little & cute it did help take the edge off the sting of having lost the ones I did.

Anyway I just wanted to tell ya I'm just so in awe of your place there. Yea build more coops... LOL

Sorry All no chicks here for awhile,
Now ya know who i am, hehehheh..

Incubators are all cleaned up and no eggs in and they are shut down..we are taking a long over do brake..

Soon they will be back up and running when the split black/lavender orp girls kick in,, should be another 4 weeks and they should begin to lay if not sooner....

Bators been down and empty for about 2-1/2 weeks now..

Hope your bear troubles end soon..

Well Charlie that is probably best that you've got nothing there because I'd promised myself I'd be good & just stick to what I have untill next spring. Of course going to your web page this whole "Lavendar Orpington" is very interesting. Of course the whole "we should get a chicken" thing started because I'd had more than a few ticks on me this past sspring & I'd said "I don't really care what kind they are I just want it to eat bugs" & then I figured "well we can't have a rooster & we might as well get eggs & I don't want a nasty chicken" & before I knew it I was saying "well this kind is pretty." & there I was picking colors & then justifying why I should "get this kind". LOL It's best there's nothing in the works there by you now. Though I don't know about a new breed that sounds like a pretty big responsibility went it comes to making a hybrid. That's must be very exciting & rewarding Charlie.
