A bobwhite with spraddle leg

LOL! Yeah. Whatever. It's funny that people think that we don't have the things that we do have up here (like Nordstroms? and running water) but think that we, who live in the boonies, can just pop in our car and drive to the Dollar Store that doesn't exist within a 200 mile radius.

I don't think we even have a dollar store in Alaska? If we did, in Alaska it would be known as the "Two Dollar Store"........

heck where I live we have a Lodge, Ice cream shop and a RV park.....lol!

BUT....Big BUT here...I took it upon myself to go all the way into town to HOMEDEPOT, and spent a whole lot more than
one dollar on the stuff that could have saved me this headache in the first place. I'd say I had more than just a dollar
in my pocket at the time...

LMAO! Apparently that's their answer to all chicken-ailments.

I wonder if the really fuzzy pipe cleaners could be fashioned into a hobble of sorts?

now theres an idea! Good one bird brain! I really like that. The biggest problem with treating these lil guys is that they are little and very very mobile ... This pipe cleaner idea holds alot of promise--- I would think if you could wrap it around the shanks of the legs a couple wraps that it would be difficult for lil Mr fuzzy to get loose from. HMMM Now to find a victim.... and a pipe cleaner.... LOL

As far as spraddle legs --- it just happens sometimes. I have and will continue to hatch thousands of gamebirds in a number of speces. Sometimes dispite our best efforts you end up with 1 from time to time. I certainly wouldnt suggest its a care issue unless you were posting "everytime i hatch ..... i get spraddle...." But obviously thats not the case here. Please dont think the quail forum is rude, Thats not the case by anymeans, I and many others spend a great deal of time here trying to lend a hand to folks with good solid information. (gmendoza? never seen that user here before???)

Thank you so much, I don't think everyone is rude, not at all. Those comments just really caught me
off guard. Since Alaska is so far behind everyone else, I had just woke up and saw that reply.

Anyhow he/she has had the band aid on overnight. I took it off this morning and it was still spraddled. I put a new band aid on. I
sure hope it'll help this little one.

How many days should I keep at this. From what I have read it seems like it should have worked by now. But I wont give up so soon.....

Here's the little guy sporting his new accessories....

It was interesting, have you ever tried to tape a bee to the wall?

And of course, Im the only one home for two weeks....so I only had my two hands!

LOL I can easily see the look of disdain on his face! If it's going to work it should do it within 3-4 days. There may just be a development problem with his hips and if thats the case I dont know of anything that will work no matter how long he hops around sporting it... Its usually a more common disease process seen in some pheasants but I dont see any reason it couldnt affect bobs... Have you checked any vet references? There may be something supplimental you can use to aid in this endeavor--- maybe vit c in the water or something like that??? I know its 1 of the treatments for spondylosis in the pheasants.

Thanks again! Wonderful link. I will certainly sit down and look that over as well....

They have access to both Avia charge and Durvet Vitamins and Electrolytes. I have two different waters in there, I would think
that either one of those would be beneficial?

I should give it some time, I only just got the band aid idea to work yesterday afternoon. He's walking around fine with the aid of the band aid
on him. So we'll see.
