A Bum In My Yard!!!

Very well said!

ALL of what you said so well is something everyone should learn quickly and REMEMBER. I don't know how many times I've learned and forgotten that there are people who CHOOSE the care-free lifestyle and depend on others' compassion to support them. They are not homeless because of misfortune.
I have compassion for people who are homeless because of temporary circumstances, but I've had my compassion abused by too many manipulative others who took advantage of my wanting to help them and then felt they'd done something "smart and clever".

Firm beliver that this is the result of how childern were raised by their parents and the increaseing numbers show how many more parents are failing in the responsibility of teaching children how to become proper adults.

At what point does a grown person start to take responsiblity for their own actions regardless of how they were raised???

The only person that is responsible for their actions is themselves. I think the blame game is just an excuse.

I heartily agree! At some point as adults, we have to take responsibility for who we are and who we plan to be. One can overcome bad upbringing just as they can ignore good parenting and make bad decisions.

Just a reminder to some of the folks in this thread:

Many people in the United States are only one to four paychecks away from being homeless.

Unfortunately I think this a rather naive statement. If you've spent any time with the homeless, in the shelters or soup kitchens, legal clinics etc you'll know that there is usually an underlying factor that is common in 75% of homeless people. Drugs, Alcohol, Mental Issues are the biggest. Most of them are happy to be how they are where they are whenever they are. Most of the ones I've worked with hardly see beyond tomorrow let alone themselves.

In our society we have basically made it a criminal offense to be homeless, and the hardcore select who stay in this category for a while will often have a long list of offenses on their record, from public drunkenness, possession, prostitution, vagrancy, public urination, shucks, in many cities, its illegal to store your personal belongings in the city parks where a lot of the homeless congregate along the waterfront during the warm months. My point is this...... Breaking into your house, stealing your stuff to get money for more drugs and booze, well if it works they get what they want. If they are caught? They are put up in a facility that has heat and air conditioning... Three square meals a day, and the use of bathrooms. All of which is unavailable to most hardcore homeless.

Why not bust in and break a tv, carry off stuff that you can fence... either way they win... right?

You think every single homeless person is a thief or addict? Not one single good person out their, who in this economy is laid off, no money, nowhere to go. You don't think that it could happen to you or I? Thank you for your comment, but I don't think I am naive.

no not every one, but if you noticed I used the term hardcore homeless. those who choose to remain so.

He didn't even say or imply every single he specifically said 75% to confirm he no way meant every single.

That is exactly what I was saying! I wasn't making reference to the "hardcore homeless", but rather to those who are victims of circumstance. Just wanted to point that out since you said that was "naive", lol.
