A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It has been snowing here - very unusual. I laugh because I'm becoming one of "them". I grew up in the cold white north - and now I wonder if they're going to shut everything down when it hits freezing and snows a couple of inches :gig. I swore I would never do it....but I wanted to stay home today because it snowed lol. The birds are decidedly unimpressed with snow, and won't set foot outside :)

other than flurries couple weeks ago none here yet.

just chilly/cold. but has clouded up quite dense today.

I get my trio of bourbons tomorrow.

thinking about adding some more quail. have a lead on some that are laying. 18 hens and 3 roos. my new incubator is calling to me. I hear it saying " incubate, incubate"

new to me and bigger doesn't help my incubating addiction. I've been scouring craigslist and ebay looking at and for eggs. as I don't want to wait on spring.

but I must wait "RIGHT"

Fiesty I understand. Growing up in St. Louis I was used to snow. They hardly closed anything. Here they close schools if there is just the prediction of snow. But to be fair, we have no snow removal capabilities. When is it your heading to New Zealand? I'll be waiting for pictures of the native turkeys! Surely yhey have turkeys. Did you register big Bird as an emotional aid pet yet? :D

Feedman your as addicted as Auroa & Ralphie! But a new bator has to be SO tempting! Those quail are so dang cute! What do people do with them? Eat 'em, look at 'em, turn them into little lappers? You could stuff some in your jacket pockets & use them as hand warmers!

Excited about your new trio! You must post pics! Any leads on Narri's yet?

no narri. leads.

my quail I hatch the eggs. keep a few for more eggs. eat what I don't sell as babies.

I also have a gentleman I work with that's wife loves eating quail eggs so I sell some eggs.

never thought of hand warmers might have to try that while deer hunting next week.

in fact I have 8 that I thawed out marinating in the fridge. in Italian and roasted red pepper dressing.

gonna deep fry them for lunch tomorrow.

Every turkey went to bed by themselves tonight! 21 of them are in the roosts and rafters of the coop % are sitting outside on the roosts in the covered run.

All it takes a little snow and sub zero temps and they behave well.

I see quail eggs on restaurant menus. So I guess food is the main reason to raise them. Or the cute factor! They really are darling. Feedman, you need to raise a lapper hen. She can keep you warm while hunting and maybe even call in some wild turkeys! Yet another use for a lapper! (R2elk, I know its illegal...kidding...maybe.) But really, whats the difference between using a turkey call & having a conversation with your emotional aid turkey hen in your blind. And what would the game warden say when you hand him her aid registration papers?
