Thanks for the offer feedman roughly where you located? We are in Rolla/St. James area. But for a good bird would travel a bit. I kind of want another blue slate or royal palm maybe. Prefer the lighter colors. So I don't have any permethrin on hand...what else will help start the lice fight?

OH! Also while checking the chickens feathers I noticed several have bare bellies and reddish skin. Molting? Doesn't look infected or sores anywhere. Just bare smooth skin. And there toe nails are getting long. Should I trim them?

I'm in carroll county. 1 hour north of sedalia. about the farthest east I venture is columbia or jeff. city. my sister lives in jeff.

I have a blue slate. and a spare palm tom. if i dont lose any more of them over winter.

I just snapped a bunch of pictures they tell a funny story, at least to me. They show how friendly he is.











When I first opened his cage and started taking pictures he jumped down and ran to me, I thought he wanted to be hugged. He always wants to be hugged.

Sorry for his looks, I have bag balm on him and it dulls his feathers when it runs.

Here I finally realize he is not coming for a hug. He is trying to figure out what the IPhone is.

As you can see he still has a comb with very little winter damage. I am really trying to keep his comb intact for showing next year. I hope he does not get too white.

Now I will show two other breeds of my indoor chickens..


The first two are my "yokohama" The Cockerel is in the front pullets behind.
The cockerel tail can grow up to 25 ft long. I want to get to 10 feet if I can.





Then these are the Pollacks. What can I say about them. They look pretty but are dumber than a full box of rocks.

Ralph, I've offen heard that about the Polish. The Yoko is beautiful. Are they game? Don't know much about them.

And Cuddles! So handsome! Boy does he have a comb! It looks good. And those waddles are amazing. I'm assuming his waddles would get wet when he drinks, do you have to protect them from frost bite too? How old is he now? How much does he weigh? Would love to see a body shot.

Cuddles was an April or May baby he is young. I actually think he has been losing weight in the last month, but our weather has been bad and he has not gotten much exercise.

I am not sure what he weighs. His waddles would freeze too, I am doing the dumb thing and using heat around him, the heating pads and a low wattage heat bulb. I only use the bulb when I think the moisture is too high. It is risky because if the heat goes out he may not be as acclimated as he should be to our cold. But to Acclimate him would kill his comb and waddles. I am going to do something different next year. Not sure what yet.



I do not think Yokohamas are a game bird they are listed in the SOP as n Oriental. However mine are not listed as they are a Sliver Duckwing and that variety has not been accepted. I got them because of all the yokohamas and Phoenixes I liked the look of these the best. They are also a LF but they are really small. The eggs are bantam size. If I show them he will need a double cage because of that tail. I have seen the hens step on it by accident.

What is a good affordable brooder I can pick up? Our Black is trying to mate with our Rio Grande Wild Hen so we figure we'll be needing a brooder eventually. We're kind of excited.

Also does anyone know if we can become a heritage breeder
