A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Here's a silly question... Has anyone tried using bamboo for perches? I have a stand of bamboo that needs to be cut back and building new houses for the babies... Wondering if I can use it instead of buying lumber.:caf

I normally use 2X2's for my perches.

@memphis you'll love this... When I pick up my toms, they tend to put their head over my shoulder an just become dead weight. They generally don't like to be handled, but don't protest. My hens are happy lappers.:ya:wee:woot

Hey guys, I soaked my Tom's feet again tonight. It looks to me like he doesn't have bumblefoot, but just some gnarly callouses with doo stuck to them. I shaved off layers gently, and I soon got to clear flesh and a little blood. It was definitely different than my chicken that I had worked on the night before. Here is a picture of his foot after I took off some layers. I stopped when he started to bleed, because the tissue underneath looked healthy. I do have a little more experience in this area because I do nails for a living, so I have seen a lot of foot problems, albeit in humans. Nothing here looked necrotic or infected. I will continue to monitor it though.

Feisty...whats going on? Haven't heard from you lately.

Been super busy here :). Just been trying to keep up with reading the forum in my free minutes lol. Had my family from New Zealand here visiting, and putting in lots of extra time at work. Thankfully it stays light later now and I still get to visit with the birds when I get home! Been enjoying everyone else's pictures and news, but haven't been having many adventures here :p

Glad you have good experience background and worked on it... :)

I could be wrong, but I would double check this area I circled...

almost looks like yellow infection under the skin there, maybe?

And just fyi, not all bumbles look like the clear-cut classic examples... some are a real PITA just cuz there isn't a clear core to remove... :/

Thank you! I agree, that area does look suspicious, but it really seems more like callous material. Tomorrow is going to be processing day for our first set of meat chickens, so I will be tired tomorrow I'm sure. I will re-soak and check his feet on Saturday night. I have this heavy duty callus remover stuff that I am tempted to put on his feet. Probably not a good idea. Haha. The shaving of small layers seems to be th best method. Again, I can't thank you enough for your help! :hugs
