You have the same thing going on as my poults. Bourbon red x Royal Palm (in my case, blue Palm), and all the poults should be the same, but some of them have different wing markings coming in. I can see it in your poults too. See how the closer one has striped wings, but the farther one has more of a white color wing?

I've been trying to find out if it's possible for a bourbon red to carry some other gene like maybe narri.
yes, i noticed that, i also think i have a pair :fl so i was wondering if the wing color difference made them sex-linked

A Bourbon Red tom can carry a hidden recessive Narragansett color gene (bb rr Nn). Because the Narragansett (n) color gene is a sex linked gene, a Bourbon Red hen cannot have a hidden recessive Narragansett color gene. If that gene were present, she would be a Bourbon Buff (bb rr n-) and not a Bourbon Red (bb rr N-).
i think this answers my sex-link question

The new young man in our neighborhood came down last evening to visit Daisy. He met my 6 year old neighbor...the one who invited Daisy to her birthday party....my gosh was that cute. Two kids discussing turkeys like a couple of little experts.
that is adorable! Did daisy accept his invitation??

R2elk answered about the size but did not touch on the psychological implications of a small snood. A small snood can do untold damage to the turkey's mental health.

Small snooded turkeys will become obsessed with their small snood. They start wondering what is wrong with them, of course, we all know it's that they have a small snood.

Girl turkeys laugh at small snooded guys. Of course, they all say the same same thing Memphis told JR last week when he asked about snood size, "size doesn't matter". (of course, we all know it does or they wouldn't be asking)

Just remember the phrase "Size doesn't matter" Whenever one of you turkeys mentions snood size you say "size doesn't matter". Now we all know it does, but a young turkey is close to crazy to start with. Telling him he has a small snood could cause him to do dangerous pranks, removing the "danger gators" sign in areas a turkey with a large snood might go swimming in....

The other little know fact is only a small snooded turkey ever asks about snood size. Now you will often hear us talk about "snood pulling contests".
They are a real thing turkeys find it hard to pull their own snood to make it larger, so the small snooded turkey will spend hours with other small snooded turkeys and pull each others snoods. They will pull them to the point they are bloody and swollen. Turkeys are not all the smart.

Anyways, you now know the secret about snoods,

Have a happy 4th all.
lol, you are hilarious

Has anyone had a big problem with ticks this year? I know my ducks and turkeys will eat them and according to some "experts", they can eat up to 200 a day. I also read that there is a turkey tick which is actually the larvae of the Lone Star Tick - which I don't even know if we have around here. We do have the dog tick and the deer ticks that carry Lyme disease.

I have not seen any ticks on any of my birds, but can they attach and cause problems? Or would they just get "eaten" as they are discovered by the birds themselves?

My 9 year old grandson was just diagnosed with Lyme disease, spent a day at the hospital and now has to take antibiotics for the next 21 days.
huge ticck issues here, i need more birds
:hugs hope the grandson gets better quickly and has no lasting damage :hugs

Right now, their experimental begins are still on sale for $5/poult and last I looked, included free priority shipping lol. You should go for it!
and i dont see a minimum

Gorgeous photos everyone!!!

After looking at Porter's site, and listening to y'all I've started paying closer attention to the color of my birds.. This morning I noticed my royal palm hen has some light brown barring in the center of her back. Black bars to each side. I'm (shudder) assuming this means she is not a "correct rp" ?

That is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time!

Royal Palms are black and white only. If the turkey has the normal black and white also has brown in it, it is not a Royal Palm but rather it is a Tri-Color and should not be used in a Royal Palm breeding program.

From Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys site:

"My line of royal palms are strictly black and white like the standard calls for.

I have seen many so-called pure royal palms from hatcheries that had a light reddish tint to them or ended up looking like calicos, which is a fault.

Any birds that show this off-color in them are genetically a tricolor and should not be used in a breeding program of pure royal palms."

Hey all.

I am currently a tad upset at the actions of someone on here. I am going copy part of the originating thread. They include the the rules, There are 3.

I am starting a new thread in hopes we get everyone together on one thread for turkeys instead of several "turkey talk" threads.

If I fail, so be it.

Rules here are simple..

1. have fun
2. BYOB
3. at some point mention turkeys. if it goes a tad off topic, who cares.

These are still the rules. As much as I would like to have a thread for everyone, if you cannot bear to see this thread go slightly off topic, please go to one of the other turkey threads.

If you have no funny bone or sense of humor, please move on...

Thank you much.
