A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

To expand on what R2elk said, @JRNash I would use those in conjunction with other colors to make a ton of designer birds. To be honest while I enjoy breeding towards a Standard, it is not as fun as seeing what you will get in mix.

Which is why I am going back to my "Calico Flock" or "flock of many colors".

I am also going to be using a lot of RP's in them from now one. I like what theu can do with penciling and markings but most important to me is making the smaller bird. For my wife and I being way longtime empty nesters, the larger birds are just too big.

As far as sale of birds go most people really do not care if they are pure or not.

So if I get free of this siege I am under from this federally protected predator that's my plans. If I lose most my birds before I kill it, I will take up carpentry or fishing....

BTW I live in a Federal Wildlife Area, closed to people and they protect all predators 365 days a year. My little private piece is the only piece of land around they can be shot or trapped on...God bless Camo clothing!

I have been under the weather and went out late to feed and release birds.....

over 20 dead in the Guinea Gulag. I think this is the 4th year I have had it and never had a predator. I walked around and saw 2 spots something tried to get in and dug towards the pen but the wire underneath is intact and it stopped the attack.

I will have to look closer this afternoon. At this rate I will be birdless in 6 weeks. The guinea gulag is the last place I expected an attack to succeed. I think it opened the door, locked it after it and when it left.

Not one of the birds appears eaten. The last attack like this (3 weeks ago) I lost over 20 and about 20 died in next 2 weeks from injuries or infection from the bites. I do not even notice they are sick until they die from the battle injuries.

The last attack was my fault I have no horizontal hardware cloth as it was a temporary pen. This one had the barrier.

Arrrrrrrgggghhhhhhhhhhhh

soory for the attack.. sounds like a weasel or a relative of weasel.. they can get in any opening bigger than 1/2" and they climb ( see my profile pic)

It was suggested by the one I got my turkeys from, I also run my duck eggs the same... both do better on sides and within 1 degree higher than the 'norm'... I also never add water to the bator...

If I ran dry in my climate, nothing would hatch... Dry humidity here is around 10% and adding water bumps to 20-30% for incubating. I put in three reservoirs in my hatcher to bump up humidity to 70-80%, the Marans have a hard time otherwise.

yes, i noticed that, i also think i have a pair :fl so i was wondering if the wing color difference made them sex-linked

I see your question got answered. I was going to tell you that of my two odd-patterned wing poults, one is male and one is female.

I had to share this photo that was taken yesterday at our family party. My turkey buddy was perched on my arm and we were showing her to my niece. The little girl tried to gently grab the turkey, and it calmed down and was just staring at her when she was giving it a kiss. It was so cute!

This is cute until the turkey dots her in the eye. Sorry to be a stick in the mud but Ive had it happen to me, and I would sure hate to have it happen to a small child.

I am so sorry Ralphie - That is an awful lot of birds not counting time, effort, and feed to just lose overnight. :(

I don't know that I could or would start over after massive losses, but then again......
