I know that many enjoy getting their toms to gobble and it is really easy to do. Usually any loud sound will set the toms off. However when you have multiple toms in the same area it can start immediate fights and really cause the toms to get wound up.

It is not unusual for some toms to develop at different rates especially if they are different varieties.

I'm sure that's true on the growth rate. I just want to make sure his legs will be good and that he doesn't get too heavy. He's my favorite, of course. (sigh)

Yes, I've played the video before but never had the response I had today. Definitely was not a good idea. Yet they have stood next to each other and gobbled and no one did anything. Weird birds (No, not stupid, Ralphie) lol

You can claim not stupid...BUT I just got through chasing 6 youngun's off the roof of the coop. They refused to go where I wanted them to.

Two went in with the big birds and 4 went back to their coop. Now they are calling and crying for their lost buddies.....

Is it better I call them "not so bright" than stupid?

It's just a simple fact that every species has those that are more "mentally challenged" than others. hehe Believe me, I am not claiming geniuses here, but I see them seemingly thinking things through.

And, yes - perhaps I have just been lucky so far, but that said, they ARE smarter than many people I know around me. That gives them a foot up in my book.

Thanks for reminding me, I took it's picture and promptly forgot to post it.. Old age is setting in more and more..

Its the lighter colored one, I can try to crop and pull it in if needed. It looks almost mottled. It does not look like any other bronze I have.

My guess and it is only a guess is that one of your Royal Palm toms bred one of your Bronze hens and created a Narragansett Semi-Color Semi-Gray hen. Such a breeding would create that type, all hens that are Narragansett Semi-Color Semi-Gray and all males that are Bronze Semi-Color Semi-Gray.

Of course since there are no photos of that type of hen, I am just guessing that is what it is.

Ralphie...that hen may be one for Genetics 101. She's interesting. Aurora, keep us posted on what they come up with on your poults.

So far I'm not satisfied with what they've come up with lol. I KNOW the two aren't red bronze like someone suggested.

It all depends on who answers. I'll bump it for you if it sits there without the right people chiming in.

Of course since there are no photos of that type of hen, I am just guessing that is what it is.

Aw rats! I was hoping you could tell us how to ID those genetics. The differences between some of those genes and semi genes are so subtle, that I can't usually pick out why they will say a bird is one thing over another.

Hi, yes you all have been helpful. As I sit her staring at him, we are about 45 minutes from dusk and it is doing a lot of running around, calling. We have been involved with him all day in between reading online and trying to learn as much as possible and keeping my three dogs out of the back yard. Trying to decide if we can even make a pen and where exactly to do it. We bought plenty of chicken wire and made a temp pen, nice and big and with a wire roof but come dusk last night he freaked out. Clearly it wasn't tall enough for him. I really feel unprepared to care for this turkey right now. If I knew it was a girl, I would feel better. Having a tom scares me... but I know so little about turkeys that I am not even sure why or what is scaring me. My dogs, my neighbors... not to mention THE neighbor in question. I am so frustrated that he would bring creatures into this world that he wasnt prepared to care for and leave them defenseless to roam the neighborhood with little survival skills. I dont know what to do! I have young kids, we just bought a camper and have many trips booked. They are short few day trips, but won't having turkeys tether me to the house? I ultimately wanted chickens but barring this situation, I intended to wait. Eeek. My heart breaks for this creature and I'm totally stressing over this.

Dont stress!! they are easy to care for! and fun too!
there are many people on here who have birds that follow them around and sit in their laps like a cat, just give it time

Lots of people forget that Royal palms (b1b1 cgcg nn) or (b1b1 cgcg n-) carry the Narragansett gene.

@duluthralphie If you want to do a sex linked cross, mate a Royal Palm tom with a Bourbon Red hen. All of the female offspring will be Golden Narragansetts carrying a hidden Black Winged Bronze gene and all the male offspring will be Red Bronze carrying a hidden Black Winged Bronze gene and a hidden narragansett gene.
