A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have sooo many grasshoppers I doubt I can limit the amount they eat. I'm assuming between their diet and the bugs they probably are averaging closer to 30% protein. I added in mealworms since the only feed I could get was 21% protein and they're just now 6 weeks old.

I am battling some European Hornets. Have one in the house right now and it is larger than my thumb. If I catch it, do you think it will make a turkey snack? I mean, these things are HUGE.
:yesss:

If I do not catch it before I go to bed, I WILL be barring my door and stuffing a towel under the sill. I really have no interest with sleeping with this thing.

Ew! A friend of mine was just telling me about helping someone remove a nest of those things! He's an experienced bee keeper and was afraid of those buggers! I can't imagine why (insert sarcasm here).

You removed me about my experience last year, walling up in the middle of the night being sing by a bee. Hubby thought I was just dreaming since I tend to do and say weird things in my sleep, but no, I want dreaming this. The next night, hubby got stung. We started finding them on the walls, on our bed, even under the sheets! They had built a nest outside in our siding and somehow, every day, a couple were finding their way in. Better believe we picked up some spray that day. It still took at least a week after they were gone for us to get a good night of sleep lol

That's the problem in a "nutshell". lol

My day typically runs from wake up time (around 8:30am) to anytime after midnight.

And, then, there are those "all-niters".

No wonder I am so :old
lol, i know the feeling my day starts at 530 and i usually dont stop until after dinner, and we have dinner somewhere around 9-10

You called it R2elk....Daisy has claimed my baby Sussex. She's softly talking to them. They were scratching at the dirt & she took her beak & slowly scratched with them. She let them hop on her again. And demostrated the water dish. She's very cautious moving around them. After about 15 minutes I tried to get her out of their little pen. No go...had to pick her up & haul her off. Was hoping a chicken would take an interest. Oh well. Just as well it's Daisy....she's so layed back & level headed.
:love and where are our pictures :pop

They didn't like watermelon or zucchini either... so far they like grass and bugs. Especially mealies.
spoiled much?

Be careful not to give them too many mealworms. Mealworms are 50% protein and should be considered a treat only. The total amount of all treats should not exceed 10% of their total diet.
one thing i always wondered was if the protein changed once freeze dried? (what i mean is live vs dried out)

Your right R2elk. Daisy sort of tip-toes around the babies. As soon as they start using her for a trampoline I get a bit worried & put them back in the broader. Although she doesn't seem to care....
and yet still no pictures  i am very disappointed

Hey guys! Check out my new truck accessories that just arrived. My new truck!! :barnie

Don't be concerned about how many grasshoppers they eat. Grasshoppers are a normal part of a turkey's diet. Adding mealworms can help increase the protein intake but the reason to feed turkey/gamebird is about more than protein content. They really need the higher levels of vitamins such as thiamine and niacin and methionine that are contained in a quality turkey/gamebird starter.
