A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Welcome to the thread! Glad you found it :) How is Dinner this morning?
He is still limping I feel so bad. I did try and wrap the leg and I walked away and his little helper Yumyum had taken it off for him. I got him his favorite treat frozen cut carrots on the way home from home school group at the library so I think he forgives me.

Anyone here feed hickory nuts to their turkeys? I have several trees dropping them all over the place. I know my ducks go along and just scoop them up and eat them, shell and all!

There are so many, I figure I'd be just as well off to park my truck under the trees and clean it out in the mornings.

I also read one post where someone is picking and drying all kinds of fruits and vegetables. I can do that pretty easily since I have a bunch of apples, cucumbers, squash and other stuff. And a dehydrator.

I would imagine I could cut them up in bite sized pieces and just dehydrate, bag, and store in 5 gal buckets. It would at least give them alternative foodstuffs during the winter months.
thats an interesting thought...

@DwayneNLiz It takes me an hour to drink a cup of coffee. :D I don't move very well at the start of the day - on a good day. Getting up that early after not going to bed until around 4am doesn't help.
:lau
lol, maybe try sleeping at night :hmm

You called it R2elk....Daisy has claimed my baby Sussex. She's softly talking to them. They were scratching at the dirt & she took her beak & slowly scratched with them. She let them hop on her again. And demostrated the water dish. She's very cautious moving around them. After about 15 minutes I tried to get her out of their little pen. No go...had to pick her up & haul her off. Was hoping a chicken would take an interest. Oh well. Just as well it's Daisy....she's so layed back & level headed.

Gee, that was fun--NOT! So, I'm out on the deck and hear turkey's close, really close and assume it was Sam and her brood. Walk around the deck and NO--It's my turkeys! They're by the house a 1/4 mile from the pasture.... DW and I go to investigate... She get's out of the gator with a meal worm container and everyone follows her like the pied piper. What we find is the gate is down???? Either way, all but the brats went back in without incident. The brats are still wandering around the lower pasture and will likely be in by night fall. ARG! :he Wondering why the gate wasn't tied...
