A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

For full disclosure, I hate mornings. That said, I got up at the break of dawn to see what Maria was doing. Came into the living room, sat down and turned computer on (had been on phone), looked at my security camera TV screen, and saw something that appeared to be trying to get into the turkey pen.

Grabbed my $200 spotlight (that's another story), ran to the back door, shined the light down there, saw the turkeys looking at me - but nothing else. Hmmm.

Came back to the living room and it was STILL there.

(now hanging head in shame)

It was a narrow winged black moth on my screen inside the house. And, it had moved to another position. Where it appeared to be sitting on the roof of my pickup.

well a crazy morning. I lost a turkey hen this morning to of all things a falling nest box. I have no idea who or what knocked it off the shelter its been sitting on since April?

Reading today's posts have been really therapeutic. Thank you so much.

Today is a sad day. My avatar passed away about 6:30 this morning:hit She snuggled with me this morning when I got up, went and got a drink and laid down by the door and went to sleep. When I came back in she was gone. DW is devastated. Sorry for sharing the sad news.

Prancer RIP August 8, 2005 - September 17, 2017... So sorry if this offends anyone.
:hugs so sorry and for the hen :hugs

This gal used to come in every year to get bred by one of my toms. She was a visitor for 7 years straight but failed to show up last year.

Rjohns....sorry about the hen. Bummer.

I've taken my baby Speckled Sussex outside the last few days. They are in one of my dog X-pens. All good. They are enjoying scratching around & taking dust baths. All of my chicken hens totally ignore them. As does Annie. Daisy circled the pen relentlessly. Finally layed down next to it. This morning I let her follow me into it with the babies. I was scared she'd harm them. But she slowly followed them. Again she layed down & they eventually started hopping around on her. She decided to take a snooze. I would never leave them with her unattended. But she sure seems to tolorate them. She's the only hen showing any interest in them. She's such a funny birdd.

Listen to the sounds she makes while near them. If it is a cooing kind of pleading sound she may be wanting to adopt them.

Anyone here feed hickory nuts to their turkeys? I have several trees dropping them all over the place. I know my ducks go along and just scoop them up and eat them, shell and all!

There are so many, I figure I'd be just as well off to park my truck under the trees and clean it out in the mornings.

I also read one post where someone is picking and drying all kinds of fruits and vegetables. I can do that pretty easily since I have a bunch of apples, cucumbers, squash and other stuff. And a dehydrator.

I would imagine I could cut them up in bite sized pieces and just dehydrate, bag, and store in 5 gal buckets. It would at least give them alternative foodstuffs during the winter months.
