A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Speaking of toads and meaties, here are some updated pics of my CX outcross babies. They're 5 weeks old now and the two biggest are just over a pound now. They're not huge compared to CX but they are compared to n other chicks. They're very healthy, active, love to forage, and comical. I can't wait to see what happens when I cross them back to CX next year!

And the turkeys are all doing great. Misty decided to climb up my back and on my hair last night at bedtime with her nasty, muddy feet :/ brat!

Nice birds!!! @sfgwife

I had to do my September AI/MG/Ms testing yesterday... I know September is over...I was thinking it was October testing...DUH... The USDA vet reminded me I had screwed up last week.....

I have a new USDA vet young gal about 25ish.. Lives about 2 miles from me, so I have to be good now....

We did the turkeys first. One of the TOMS busted my jaw. Well, not busted as in broken bone. But busted as hit me like a sledge hammer with his wing. I have a bruise, an abrasion a scar and a huge bite inside my mouth... Said turkey is going to be going into the Segregation Cell with the Rude Bullying Tom, and fed tons of corn for 6 weeks. Then go to a friends for dinner.....

When we entered the cull pen (chickens) there was a dead cockerel on the ground. I went over and picked it up and looked at it. She saw the rear end had the feathers pulled out and the butt flesh was bloody and eaten. She ask " What killed it"

I said" I was not sure but I would open it up before cremating it"

She then asked " Didn't a predator kill it"..
I said " nope, it died of something else,"

She then asked " well, what ate it".

I said "the other chickens"

She asked " they eat their own dead?"

I said "yep"

She said " I did not know that"

I then told her, "Yep they are little raptor like dinosaurs and will swarm the dead in seconds"

She asked " really"

I said " Yep, which is why if you fall down around chickens you have to get up right away or they will swarm you and start eating"

Her face went white at this.. and her eyes were huge...

I had to tell her it was a joke, but it was priceless........

That's hilarious! :lau

The first time I encountered cecal poop I went into a full blown panic. They can projectile submit it and it stinks to high heaven. That said it was just normal.

Regular people have no idea of the stench of cecal poop. The smallest accidental smear can have you stinking for hours!

If anyone saw that before I deleted. . . please disregard!! Was meant for a different thread! sorry!

I'm still curious what this was about, lol.

I think it was on the rescue link. Here is one of Tom's wearing their coats.View attachment 1155628

Look at those huge feet! Like a dinosaur! Love it.

I got almost 5" of heavy white stuff starting yesterday afternoon and finishing up sometime during the night. It got down to 27°F. There are broken branches all over the place. The netting over the main part of the run which is normally 7' off the ground at the low point was down to 3' off the ground. Young trees laying down flat on the ground. There were just too many leaves left on the trees for a heavy wet snow like this. My brush pile is going to more than double in size.

The young turkeys are running around hollering, looking for something familiar.

That's crazy. I have to get ready for winterizing here...

Hahahahaa. Absolutely not. Never. Neva evah evah....

I just thought since we have had him he hasnt done this ever. Yea he fusses and makes noise but not all this crazy. Lol. I guess we just figured he would be doin this come spring when the girls are actually givin fanny fruits on the daily so he could be tryin makin lossa lil cletises. Hahahhaha. Aybe he jus practicin for the big moment eh? Cause practice makes perfect... i been told... by hubby... who is always struttin his goods at me nowadays. :lau:lau:lau. Mebbe he LIES!

 fanny fruits! Never heard that one before. Classic! My Tom struts all the time in front of the other young turkeys. They are much younger than him, but he still loves to show off.

Gorgeous! Also, is that a Irish Wolfhound in the backround?
