A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I need to get canning supplies... that's how I know I'm an adult because I asked for canning stuff for my birthday. :D

We moved and I sold off all my jars/pots because it would be a pain to move them cross country and didn't know what type of kitchen I'd have. So of course I got a kitchen with only 1 large burner that works and it's a glass top (also has a crack) so definitely can't do canning. Buuut they sell a countertop water bath canner (which is what I asked for) :)

My main issue is the house we got has no storage space (yay manufactured homes) so once I go canning crazy where do I store all the jams and such?! :barnie

We also love in a manufactured home and love to can. What we've done in the past is full boxes with canned goods and stack them in a back corner of the bedroom closet. We've also bought a few cheap shelves from big lots and just load those puppies up. We have 1 out in the open in the kitchen and 1 in the kitchen closet that get filled up. Not to mention in any cupboards and cabinets that have any room in them lol.

Spent some lapper time with Mr. T last night. He looks great after his molt! I wish there was a class for him at Hutch...

There is a class, as long as your willing to "fudge" his parentage and accept he will not win but be most talked about..

I have the same problem with the Toads. I so want to bring one.
It's too bad I already sent in my darn entry forms! And I guess we would have had to test him too... What would I have to say his parents were?

My only "pantry" is about 14" wide and already has our pantry dry goods in it. The living room has a built in shelf but that's got everything else stored. Plus the living room is converted to our home theater and glass jars rattle with big subwoofers lol!

Only rooms with some cabinet space are the bathrooms under the sink but would worry about excess humidity causing rust.

Oh well, it's already a constant battle to keep the place decluttered so maybe I just need to make some "nightstands" and such out of boxes of jars. Throw a piece of fabric over it and voila! And if you get hungry for a midnight snack you can just crack open some applesauce or fruit!

Buy a junker van, set it in the driveway close to the door and use it for canned goods storage!

I use cheap bookcases. Can always stack or layer them. :D They are stored in a little bedroom I use for other things (not sleeping), are out of the way, but easily accessible.

Canned goods need to stay in climate steady locations to stay safe for eating... so any vehicle is out. Pretty sure our 106 degrees we got this summer would ruin the seal on the jars and the freezing in the winter wouldn't help any either!

I saw a study how stacking them (second jar on lid of bottom jar) can compromise the seals and give "false seals" because it won't pop up if the seal breaks due to the jar acting as a paper weight.

So pretty much there's no winning.
