A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Our winter storms mostly come from the northeast. Seems like ralphie likes to share his winter woes. Yesterday morning it was in the 40°s F with the wind coming from the southwest. This morning the wind is coming from the northeast with a current temperature of 10°F and dropping and 5 1/2" of snow so far.
I learned to share in Sunday school over 60 years ago.... Sharing is just what I do now... Enjoy the upcoming 30 below. Thanks for offering the snow, but my Dr says snow is bad for me and I will have to pass on it.

Turkey wise I have a bronze boy that might become sandwich meat... He has somehow become the alpha, and is sneaking or walking too close behind me for comfort....

I will be trying the PETA despised "boot to the chest" a few times soon as a good chance arises.

If that fails the bruised and tenderized breast meat will be roasted to perfection.

Sorry been MIA for a while (if anyone missed me, that is).

Anyway, turkeys are still being butts and husband has decided guinea fowl for Easter sounds grand. The turkeys will be getting a turkey tractor built to allow them to eat more bugs and grass.

Going to be replacing the shavings in the coop with sand before the winter rains are upon us. It’s gotten wet (they dumped their 5 gallon waterer yesterday) and had some sideways rain the day before.. smells sooo great. If it weren’t dropping to freezing at night it’d be much smellier I’m sure.

Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well and has a Merry Christmas and all other holidays you may celebrate are happy as well!

I start work mid next week at the local feed store so yay here’s to discounted animal supplies! They have plans to put me in charge of baby chicks when they come in for the spring.

I’ve been canning and selling canned jams for the holidays and am almost sold out! Crazy! For tax/business purposes we’re trying to make it look like attempting to profit (although obviously after tractor and other things like fencing costs there’s no net profit)

Anywho, add on multiple family visits and potluck stuff and random husband business trips and that’s been my crazy December.
I got hired onto the feed store almost six years ago..... got to work there for 3 weeks then they decided my talents would be of better use at the tire shop, with the lawn mowers, but still let me come in for the Sunday run of taking care of baby chicks when needed..... they were right I make a good lawn mower sales and parts person. Ahh it all works out kuz they still send all the chicken questions over to me... lol

The Turkey I gave to the Iraqi Vet is hatching eggs today.....(STUPID BIRD)..

She called all worried about the chicks. I told her the chances of them surviving was slim. I am not sure what she could do with 20 below in the forecast to save them, absent taking them into the house and I know her DH will not allow that.
I have a hen hatched chicks over Thanksgiving. I made her a truck topper house propped with hay bales, and the sun warms it inside during the day and the babies can't stray far. The snow insulates the top, too, helping hold in heat. If it has a heat pad nest in there, perhaps she could keep the babies alive, but if it is momma's first time hatching, forget about it.... Those poor poults are done for.
I hope she gets a house turkey and baby house turkeys for the holidays....
Poults are so cold sensitive!

I don't let mine in the house. It's a no fowl zone. My girls will perch on the back porch rail & stare into the kitchen.
No idea why Daisy likes kids so much. I don't own any. Maybe in her previous home she was exposed to kids. I'll never know...she refuses to talk about her past.
:lau maybe thats the problem, they have empty nest syndrom

poor things, i hope they make it!!

@memphis Got crosses of Black, BR, Bronze, Oregon Gray, Slate, White Holland and Pencilled Palm.
Lost 2 within an hour after arrival, had to put one down due to injury and accidentally left a pallet standing on end against coop and had a slate tom get crushed last week when it got knocked over.
So left is 2 mottled black (tom, hen), Slate tom, Oregon Gray (tom), 2 Bronze crosses (toms), 4 White (2 tom, 2 hen) BR cross (hen) and a hen I have not figured out yet.
the ones you have shown are very pretty!!! Weoclome!!!

Two days of rain. Not complaining. We sure needed it. Luckily it's been close to 60 so it's not ice. The turkey walk tonight was a slog. But I let my little SS join us for the first time. They are too cute. They stayed right with their turkey moms. And their turkey moms kept a sharp eye on them showing them all the good bits of green. Little guys had quite the time exploring. I do get a kick out of the relationship between the little SS and the turkey moms.
and yet no pictures???

i am jealous of most of your weather....
