A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Finally struggled up to 33 here. We were at 16 this morning. Highly unusual for us...those of us who don't own wool or any down. My chicken's don't care for the cold. But my turkeys are currently taking a sun bath. And me....I'm sipping tea with tons of honey watching them from the kitchen!! Debating about taking them for their walk....
thats balmy, and i'm jealous
when i got up it was -9*, its -11* now with a windchill bringing it to -21* or so

got to 22* today and will be 27* then back to single digits and - night temps. Still not as bad as some here.

Nice and warm this afternoon. It hit 11 degrees here.
Ralphie, you would have gotten a kick out of the birds this morning. Went out and opened everything up and the turkeys came running out. Chickens and their other feathered friends looked at me like I was nuts... So I decided to wait a while to put out feed. I know my turkeys, they'll eat what ever is there. So waited until about 10:00 and then the other birds were ready for breakfast. But turkeys are turkeys... They all huddled around the first feed trough fighting for their breakfast while everybody else spread out and enjoyed their troughs. There are 8 troughs in the pasture, but the turkeys are convinced there's only one.:th

The only unhappy birds was the brat pack. They were not happy when their heating pads (aka turkeys) left the roost. I still find it funny to see only my rooster's tail feathers sticking up between two turkeys.

Been hearing about how cold it is in MN Ralph...stay warm!! And how about the 60 inches of snow in Erie PA. Holy cow!!

I bundled up & took the flock for a walk. I was not looking forward to wandering around in the cold. But they are so funny...made the walk a good time...
The wind came up today and it is now 40°F after a low of 10°F this morning.

R2elk....you were warmer than us to day. Crazy. My little Speckled Sussex followed their Turkey moms on our walk. They are so funny. They put their little heads down & just run like the dickens to catch up. Little bums actually jumped the gate to follow us. Not kidding, they are champion foragers! I don't know why they don't explode!

It's 11 right now. I'd LOVE to see 33° right now! I'm already tired of changing out frozen water dishes. I did have a heated dish in the run but the geese kept trying to swim in it and were splashing water all over the straw in there. Not a good mix! It's sitting outside the run now and trying it's hardest to keep from freezing but there's a thin layer of ice on the top anyway.

And how about the 60 inches of snow in Erie PA. Holy cow!!

I can't believe that they got so much! I know the lake effect can cause some serious snow fall but it usualy his further north, like Buffalo, NY.

My chicken flock got the carcass of out Christmas turkey today. I heated it up and threw it in the run for them. They were in Heaven! They just attacked that thing like a school of piranhas!

Hhahaha. Last night we had prime rib roast for christmas with the oldest and his wife lady. I made oatmeal amd added the bits and bobs of leftover from last night. One of our chickens had the dickens of a time keepin her piece she worked so hard filchin out of the bowl. Ours are too funny when we put out meat scraps like yours... piranas... velicoraptors....
