I did not have to slap the Tom up last night! They came out for less than 30 minutes total yesterday. One or two would come out for a few minutes and go right back into the coop. I doubt the coop is any warmer than the outside, but they stayed in most the day. I locked the doors at 4pm as they were all inside. The chickens did not take one step outside. I think the turkey hens spent the whole day on the roosts.
I saw one Tom has a swollen snood and head. Silly Tom games must have been going on inside the coop. Good thing I have Toms to spare. They will be going into a pen here shortly. (or the hens will)
My turkeys are running in at night because I locked them out during the day.. it's been above zero during the day...-10 now ...high is supposed to be four..,. warm for some of you
Miserable here too Flashpoint. Didn't get above freezing today. Going down to single digets tonight. Our normal daytime average this time of year is 50.
But at least the pollen in low... so no allergies right?
We had deal with frozen pipe mess this mornin too. Mama had a water softener installed a few years ago and on cold nights it will kick off the breaker in the pump house now. :/. Both our homes use the same well and pump. if there is the least bit of resistance it kicks it. Last night it decided do it. Blah! So til bout noon we had no water. Then when the heat lamp did its job there was a dumb leak. . Husbeast and son the young (he is 21) got that all fixed after mornin huntin. But til then i was meltin ice from water buckets on the stove in a big ole pot.... and cussin meself for not fillin jugs and keepin em in the laundry room like i know to do in winter. . But life is good. We gots water. And i filled jugs and set em in the corner of me laundry room for next time. I got the last border put on a quit i been workin on today and that king sized beast is ready go to the quilter . And i got an easy peasy baby one quilted and finished today.
No power...no water...hate that. This weather is playing havoc on systems here. Even parts of Florida are down in the teens. I heard, somewhere, the average temp in the States was 11 at one point yesterday.
My turkeys are so puffed up they look like football linebackers walking around.
