Having trouble keeping over 60% humidity with the water trays full to the brim... I ran the shower in the room to up ambient humidity. It just rained and don’t have our hvac going so no clue why I can’t get it humid!

Have you checked your hygrometer? Did you calibrate it before startin? Might need sponges in there.... the space the water takes up will get humid not the depth.

I just added some rolled up terry cloth towels along the outer two sides soaked in some warm water and that upped it enough. I have a tube I can feed through the vent to re-wet the rags. Will just have to be diligent about re-wetting stuff for a few days!

Hey all
I'm going to be incubating some turkeys for a friend. My first time doing turkeys.

I know they are 28 days, any other tips if they vary much from chickens and ducks? I've heard having a chick to teach them to eat? Thanks for any info!

Having a chick or two a week older than the turkeys is a must...Turkeys are like DUX in that respect, not real brain trusts......BUT the turkeys are at least useful and luvable.

I put chicken eggs in with the turkeys. That way when the turkeys hatch the chicks are ready to do babysitting duty.


Turkey egg shells are tough, but the turkeys seem to hatch better with less problems than chickens. I run around 75% humidity the last 3 days..

Also do not candle them until day 14. You will only disappoint yourself if you do. At a week you might see something or might not. Day 11 you normally do. BUT by 14 you know which ones are alive.

Thanks for the wet rag suggestion (I think was Duluthralphie). Was having trouble getting humidity up past 60% when started lockdown and now it’s been staying at 74-76% for 24 hours without any additional water.

So right now the poults are orienting themselves in the eggs and preparing to break free? They’re mid day 26. I ask because 2-3 eggs are slightly moved from where they were at yesterday when I set everyone even in rows for lockdown. No earthquakes I know of!
