A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So far I have had many folks say they would buy poults from me if I can sell them cheaper than Murdock's at $15 and several people interested in birds full grown as they have lost lots of young turkeys in past years..... including the guy who I got my first turkey eggs from, he seems to have trouble keeping them alive.

PolarBerry....waiting for bug eyed pics! Congrats on the hatch!

Aurora....the broody bunch is cracking me up! Love it! Obviously taking the "It takes a village " approach! What a cool bunch of moma birds! And they are fashion forward sporting those cute saddles!! Seriously...so sweet !! Lucky little babies.
And Phil & Lil are just amazingly beautiful. Keep the pics coming of those two...they are mezmarizing....I keep staring at their feather colors & patterns...so interesting! Hey...how is my girl Cuddles?????

We are approaching seriously dangerous heat levels here. Heat index approaching 110 this week. So humid it's hard to breathe. Employing fans, misters, wadding pools. Staying in the 80's at night now. All birds panting. Poor girls. Employing two fans in the turkey pen. One mounted high to reach the roosting area. One low to catch them while on the ground. Got home yesterday and both were lounging in front of the low mounted fan. Taking full advantage.

Yuck! We have had that nonsense for the past weekish. I only jave one bird out of em all that will stand in the pool. But she also will do it to any and every water source in their run. Lol. Sister is so not about the hot and sings it loud and proud to me. So bein the dutiful hooman i jus go change waters a few extra times every day lol! Somehow. Her pool is ALWAYS the very last to get poopy.... i think it is a scam to get cool water more often to drink....

Looking like 15 is what I got, no new pips at all since the late hatcher yesterday.

I have people that want a lot more babies and one of my hens snatched up the last 3 days of eggs and is being a broody hen now. I knew they could pick up eggs with their beak but never believed it till she grabbed the one I held out to her from another box and promptly tucked it under herself cooing, lol.

The meat chickens go to butcher tomorrow morning so will be nice not being awoken by a dozen roosters at 5am, haha!

We did ours last week. It SURE is way more quiet round these parts! The meaties crowin doesnt bother me so much... they dont open their mouths when they crow so it is more of a soft honkin than the reg roos. We had a group of nine cockrels given to us wiith a batch of chicks i bought. This spring and boy howdy it was LOUD in these parts... all.day.long. Now we are down to four roos and tthey are mostly quiet. Unless the windows are open we really dont hear them from inside of a mornin. Durin the day we might hear theses that are left five or six times a day at most.

Mine are the red ranger type not the Cornish rock, so they tend to crow something between a gurgle and a crow...

So one of my poults has crooked toes on one foot. I’ve already splinted the foot and the person that wants them wants for pets and eating the toms. So she doesn’t mind about imperfections. I went to 5 different stores to try to find the poly vi sol that everyone recommends in case it’s a deficiency (although could be the one that hatched out the wrong end). Fiiiive stores and pharmacies and none carry it.

Anyway, I found vita sol at the pet store “for all birds” and figure that’s better than nothing... and probably pretty similar (from what I could see on the ingredients of both).
