A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ralph....start your own line of turkeys....Minnesota Mixed!
Calico requires red (r) and Narragansett (n).

It is not possible to have more black than a Blue Slate (BB) or less slate (Dd) and have any slate at all. It wouldn't surprise me if it picked up some gray (cg) and even some Narragansett (n) from a Royal Palm or from your mixed variety Narragansett hen.

I did not mean calico like on one bird, I meant calico as in all my birds together are becoming a "calico" flock. I have another one out, some bronzish brown colored guy, but he is cute.

I keep a few slates pure and a few RP...the rest I let go to other colors and just enjoy whatever I get. if you recall, I decided a few years ago the stock I got from Porters while being good for the color were not that good for the SOP, and instead of breeding them up to show them I decided to breed them down for fun.

I got some birds from a breeder about 50 miles north of here and his were better as far as SOP goes. I try to pick a couple of those to breed, in case I ever want to work up some show birds again.

You've been referring to your flock as "calico " ever since JJ started producing every color known to man...practically! I think you should show them. I really believe they can be easier than chickens. Mine are so easy to handle and bath, do nails...etc. I've even used my dog blow dryer on them. Now that I'm thinking of it...they are easier to groom than this dang coonhound!

Who wants some bug eyed baby pictures? Don't mind the mess. I swear, I just cleaned this brooder a couple hours ago!

This is the little one that I'm not sure about. What do you guys think? Rusty black or something else? I've never had a rusty black hatch with so much brownish red down and spots!

It is most likely one of the various Rusty Blacks. Rusty Blacks can even have a Narragansett gene and still be a Rusty Black.
