A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Lovely day here. Another round of storms due tonight. Girls wandering the back 40. Last I peeked they were in dust baths. They love a spa day. Did a bit of pruning in my garden earlier. They were pacing the fence yelping. Everything is up & blooming so they are officially banned from my yard now. They hate it!

Sustainable Poultry Network. http://www.spnusa.com/certification.html#certified I look there to find farms closer to folks, as those farms have to have a good feed source. As for what your doing it makes sense and if it works for you don't change.
I had no idea this was a thing.
My biggest issue with feed is affording it. I can't afford organic feed, anything over 20 I just can't do it's just not in the budget. The big splurge is the kelp, it's about 70-80 bucks for a 50 lb bag, but I dole it out real slow to make it last. Organic here typically costs 25 to 30 dollars a bag.

Yes......Your snowstorm caused me to waste a full bag of feed on my chickens and turkeys that were free ranging for the last 10 days....

If you do not end this storm today it will be up to $21.30 you are lucky I did not add in the sales tax.....

:lau:lau:lau We can make no compensation for incremental weather. Actually, I’m pretty sure at this point that the storm afflicting You is not the same as the storm afflicting us, as our storm has been hanging around like a deadbeat relative. :rant It has finally stopped snowing, but now it is winding and a whole lotta colding. This is ridiculous. We ended up with probably 17” just like the weatherdorks said. Stupid weatherdorks. :tongue

17 inches of snow! I'd rather deal with a deadbeat relative!! Weatherdorks have us under a severe thunderstorm warning. Storms through the weekend.
Girls won't be happy. I tend not to cater to their whims whilst its storming. However, they are not as ambitious as the chickens. Hanging out on their roosts is not an issue for them.
R2elk...I give the girls a few beak fulls of BOSS when they go into their pen. I have a plastic cup full. When they walk into their pen they automatically turn around and get to grab a beak full from the cup. Not alot per day. Just their little treat.

Oh...and digging around my gardens this week I've uncovered several grubs. Now that is a highly prized treat! No wonder they hang close when I have my shovel out! If I'm walking around with a shovel in my hand, every chicken & turkey will follow behind me. As I dig, every beak is poised ready to grab a worm or grub. Takes me twice as long to dig a plant as most folks. Each shovel full and hole is inspected. My garden friends think its hysterical....I'm trying to dig something up and all these birds are standing wing to wing in a circle surrounding the dig site.

Lol @memphis I can just see that! Your entire flock is so spoiled!

My eye is irritated and I'm worried I may have pink eye. Hopefully it's just allergies. Yesterday, I was petting one of my ameraucana hens (she demands it every morning) and one of the penciled poults came over. When I wasn't paying attention to her, she pecked me right in the corner of the eyeball! It didn't start bugging me much until last night and is still irritated this morning. Little turd!
