A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It was beautiful out first thing this morning. A few of the young turkeys decided to free range this morning. They didn't have permission but you know how turkeys are...

Someone over on the goose forum said the wings get like that when the flight feathers come in. They’re heavy with blood, I guess, and some of the goslings have trouble with that. I couldn’t see the problem this morning but I did add some brewers yeast to their feed in case the niacin in their food isn’t enough. I think I’m gonna put them in with the layers. They’re kind of cramped in the Summer House and it’s too mushy to get it out to the pasture where it’s supposed to be.

It’s mushy with the hens too, but they do have some dry ground. I put the big poults over on the chicken side so they wouldn’t *have* to be in the wet. I’m in the process of adding stuff to soak up the water...

I moved the little poults and chicks into the grow out coop. Since two of my Columbian Wyandotte girls have been sticking to the nest boxes, I put them in there also. One of them immediately started gathering chicks to sit on. The other didn’t show any interest so I took her back out. Here they are. I’m going to take out all the warming things in a few minutes. I am pretty sure they don’t need them, especially with her in there to snuggle the tiny ones.

I moved the warmers out & mama rushed for the water when everyone scrambled. (There’s plenty for everyone.) Now, though, she’s back in her corner with her beak ajar.

Is this a problem? Or should I trust her to get a drink when she needs one? The little chicks really seem to love her. Not the poults so much, though I see one or two in the throng. Funny. I guess the poults are bigger and don’t feel the need so much.
