A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

That's a huge limb Flashpoint! Scary! What do you mean the squirrels were missing? Wish mine would go missing! I'm overrun with them....rats with tails! So destructive.
Memphis - About 4 years ago, I had a really big snowstorm here. My main fence around the property is an old 3-foot tall chainlink. The snow was up or over it, depending on the location around the yard. Snow had blown into 5-6 foot drifts and the snowplows made them even larger. On top, we also had a major 4-inch crust of ice due to an ice storm followed by a sleet storm. That snow was on the ground for a month at the very least.

None of the squirrels were apparently able to find enough food - to the point they were eating "berry-like" pods off my pear trees. So I was making food for them out of chicken feed and anything else I could find in the freezer and pantry - and according to what search results said they would eat. I went out and got on top of some of the drifts and hung up milk jugs with bungee cords - side cut out and filled with food. I did see squirrels eating it.

When spring finally showed up, I noticed there were very few squirrels. The next two years - I saw NONE - not a single one. Nor did I see any chipmunks - also gone and STILL gone. Where that tree fell is a patch of woods that borders me - and my property line goes into it for about 20 feet, I guess. I have been here for 20 years and there were always squirrels and chipmunks running through the yard - even eating my strawberries.

It's only been in the past week that I have seen 3 - all small young ones, so obviously there are adults. Two of them were 2 miles away from my place. The one in the pic is the ONLY one I have seen all summer.

Btw, when that snow finally melted, I realized those feeders I had put up - were unreachable. 10 feet or so up the side of the tree. I guess it's a good thing the ice was on top of that mess - or no one would have found me before the snow disappeared!
 :lau

We have grey, fox, black and red squirrels. Red are like rats only worse..

the other three are edible, just not by me. I would eat them if that was all there was to eat...or if you gave me a few million to eat them.

I ate them as a kid, over and over and over...to the point I don’t really want to eat one again.

That said I have pressure cooked a few to get the meat off the bones for Use in dishes..

but when it comes time to use the meat, I feed it to Pearl. (My dog)

Any luck getting that limb cut up? A pole saw would help. If you were closer you could use my battery one. The battery dies about the time my back starts complaining LOL

@Molpet - Not yet. I went out and looked at it from every angle - and there is no way I can get to it on my own. It's too heavy on the trunk end for me to even try levering it off the fence. It's way too high for me to reach it from the ground regarding the rest of it. I thought about climbing on top of the camper - but where the tree landed - is where I would need to be - and the roof of that camper is a tad "soft" - at least for me to try.

As much as I hate to - I will have to wait until my son can get up here to see how he wants to handle it (truck drivers are not always available). I don't want to do anything that will mess up the 8-foot high fence I just finished. That corner will be a big enough mess for me to deal with.

Ironically, my brother in law had taken "his" pole saw home the day before this happened and he's now out of state. It always happens that way.:he

And, I don't think my little electric chainsaw could handle it. This old lady has NO intention of trying to saw it from a ladder. :old

I would go with Porter on that. As black as he looks from the side, I would not rule out Cornish Palm. Only DNA testing and/or selective breeding will give clues to what he actually is. It is not uncommon for them to change their appearance as they age. My Sweetgrass tom is whiter this year than he has been in past years.
I will try and get that pic today depending on weather and temps. Calling for 90 plus degrees today and tomorrow - then going into high 80's to low 70's.

I did find this from last year.

That is how I feel about fried chicken. We had fried chicken 7 days a week and twice on Sundays unless we got barbecued chicken instead.

amazing how that works. We only had fried chicken on Sundays at my Grandmas.. I can eat chicken everyday... and I search for a chicken as good as she made,, with no luck so far...

In turkey news, anyone wanting turkeys with weird colors come and get them. I have to get rid of them!!! (This is me begging)
