A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Six of nine turkeys let themselves out this morning before I opened the gate. One, the youngest of the Sweetgrass hens must have overshot her landing and ended up in the guinea pen. As I was carrying her back to join the other turkeys, I felt some bristles on her chest. She has a beard! Three of my five current Sweetgrass hens have beards. Including my bearded Blue Slate hen, that makes 4 total bearded turkey hens.

Maybe you have gender confused birds in transition... have you checked to see if they are taking hormones? :gig:lau:lau

I don’t think I have any bearded ones right now, but I have not held many of this bunch to know for sure.

One of five from 2018 developed a beard this year. Only one of the thirteenth jakes from this year is developing a beard so far.

Some of my little Sweetgrass boys have beards. They were strutting yesterday. They’re such cuties! :love:love:love

I’ve lost my sweet little tri-mottled slate girl, though.:hit:hit:hit She was always hopping out with the TCMB boy and another SG girl. I must have let them back in 4-5 times a day but then one evening graygirl just wasn’t anywhere. I kept hoping she’d show up in a few days, but it’s been over two weeks. Either she wandered off with some of the wildling poults who were hanging around here or some hungry bird carried her away.
