I have seen that, however it is clumsy and hard for my old eyes to discern any difference.

I didn't listen.... when I moved the babies into that brooder they were acting cold so I turned the wafer up a little 30 mins later they were still acting cold so I tweaked it a little more... then at 10:30 I went to check cuz they were still SCREAMING and found that some of them were dead and others were suffering from overheating...
I spent the next 2 hours trying to save them and watched all of my bcm and all but a few of the rest die. I am so heartbroken. my DD had managed to hatch 2 black Nn and i think 4 black turkeys that she was intending to take to fair in july. both Nn and all but maybe 2 ? of the turkeys died...
I will not adjust the thermostat with babies in there again!
we have another batch set to hatch this next weekend but no more bcm.

I have black silver and blue silver marans if you want to try shipping. I've never shipped but I have hatching starting around the 31 of January, it may require heat packets to ship this time of year... They aren't black copper, but the black silver have the same pattern with silver instead of red.

Those are not colors I have access to locally.

It might be too cold but I'll see if I can snag a cooler from the clinic, a vaccine cooler might have enough insulation to protect the eggs. Hey R2elk, where does one find the egg foam for packing?

You can use a Google search for foam egg shippers to get lots of results. Many of the commercial hatcheries and chicken supply outfits sell them and of course there are lots on eBay.

I get to take a field trip to the local FFA class to help set eggs in their incubator tomorrow. The eggs are from our birds and they will be duck and turkey and next week we will add some chicken!
