A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

What's a lek?? Bantambird...gorgeous!! I've never seen a grouse in real life....just on tv....are they noisy? Do those sack things make noise? It's so much fun learning about new things here. We have such a fun & diverse bunch of turkey folk!!
A lek is the area where sage grouse gather for their demonstrations and performance of their mating rituals.

Wow, you have never seen a grouse???

It is amazing how different we all are in different areas and from varying backgrounds.

Grouse are so common here, I assume everyone has seen them.

We have ruffed grouse here. They are more solitary and do not make less, as far as I know.

A male ruffed grouse lives and dies within a quarter mile of where he was hatched, the females travel 3 or more miles during their short lived.

The males find a stump or fallen log and “drum” for females. Watching a drumming male is something to behold. The neck swells up and they do their dance. But you have to be completely still or they are gone. I have never seen a female come into a drumming male.
