A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

What is even more crazy about this panic buying is a LOT of the stuff they're buying will end up in the trash, unused because they don't want to store it once the threat is gone. Those of us who live in the country, generally have a decent stock of what we need for sudden storms because we simply can't get out after one hits. I've been seriously thinking about picking up another pack of TP this weekend, if one's available, not because I need it, but because if this trend continues next month when I do, it might not be there.
yes people have little sense, waste not want not... I also keep close to a month of stuff on hand.. used to be it was a jaunt to get to the big stores through Joliet to the other side... nowadays the food stores are 3 miles away, but I still stock up on sales. I have plenty of tp, bleach, soap, paper towels, beans, rice from sales...canned tomatoes, onions, garlic, potatoes from the garden.. although the potatoes are starting to sprout.
Wednesday I picked up my usual month of feed 35 min away, and as usual stopped at a couple of grocery stores. Still was tp and sanitizer but not much, I didn't need any anyway. I got my usual 8 large goat yogurt, fresh and frozen veggies and fruits. Yesterday I went to the closest store for a different kind of frozen veggies and almond butter. NO TP or sanitizers.

oh they will get more in next week or the week after... eventually people will have all they want, just hopefully before the supply chain breaks down

All true, A few years back I started buying bulk and capitalizing on sales. It cost a fair chunk of change up front but cut my grocery bill in half. After about a year of research, I set target prices for the things I use most of and would only buy when the number was below the target. Of course, I had to relearn what grandma taught me about storing food long term, but it's been worthwhile.

Awww...I hate that about the musical. Poor guy! But hey....get those kids on making saddles!

The hording is interesting. Can't find pasta either. It's the toilet paper I don't get. Food, maybe. But there's a lot of substitutes for TP if you get creative.

Listened to Trumps presser. Sounds like he's got things rolling in the right way. And the stock market took off!

All Pennsylvania schools have just closed down for the next 2 weeks. We're still waiting to hear if that includes the colleges too. Gov Wolf issued a state of emergency. DD is celebrating, DS is concerned for his high risk friends. I also think he's upset and disappointed that the musical is cancelled for next weekend. They've been working so hard to prepare the show.
All Maryland, WV, and VA schools are now closed for at least two weeks. VA left their "open-ended". WV has no known cases of CoVid-19, either - subject to change, of course.

Correction. VA closed for two weeks - WV, with no known cases of the virus - closed with an open-ended date. I know they are surrounded now by the other schools closing, but VA was after WV.

If I had to bug out, I would just head to my parents' place. It's 2 hours north, nearest town is 30 minutes away with 150 people and the nearest neighbor is 5 miles north. There's an artesian well so don't need electricity for running water, already have lots of beef. Plenty of room out there for all the kids, I'd just have to watch the predators and figure out how to bring all my poultry with me....
