A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I was just going through my old turkey journal. A lot of people I noted are nowhere to be seen, but one in particular I’m hoping just changed their name. Whatever became of Kuntrygirl? I of course know several of the regulars here, but she was my go-to for stupid questions.

Thank you. I tried looking her up, but it said she didn’t exist. Why on earth couldn’t I get her name to be recognized? Oh well. I know now.
Once a person has been missing for a certain length of time, they remove the name from the auto generated member lists. If you spell the name correctly, it will still make the @ list even though it won't let you pick it from a list.

I forgot about this thread. Nice job on the tribute @R2elk.

Raccoons are moving in Central MN. We have been trapping them in the grainery. Son put a trap on the 2nd floor forgetting that if he trapped something, he would need to take it down the steep steps. So daughter came to his rescue and carried it down for him. So far they have wondered into a live (box) trap to find the dry cat food. We may need to up the game with marshmallows.
The last time I tried marshmallows in a live trap to get a raccoon we ended up catching a skunk. It was an unwelcome surprise. Good luck!

The skunks never bothered the marshmallows here. After the first two coons with marshmallows here, nothing else ever went for the marshmallows.

Okay, if I were to get poults again, what do I do about feed? The feed store I used in the past is out of business, and the only 28 or 30% feeds I’m finding are only online (at TSC) and almost a dollar a pound due to shipping. I swear someone had a list of things to add to the 22% feeds to raise the protein.

Editing to add that the feed stores OneMountainAcres uses are too far from here to be logical for me.

The problem is that it isn't just the protein that is deficient. The lysine, methionine and niacin levels are also low.

Some people are adding cat food to increase the protein. I don't know what all the different levels of the other ingredients are and cannot say yes or no on this.

When the feed store that I dealt with closed, I went around to different feed stores to see if they would order in a proper turkey starter for me. Sutherland's Lumber said sure, they would be happy to add it. None of the chain stores or the other local feed store were willing to cooperate.

Guess who I send customer to for their feed needs.

The difference is that I was willing to become my own feed store if no one cooperated. I am sure that I would have done okay as the sole source of the proper feed for guineas and turkeys.

TSC is a Puriina feed dealer. As such they can order in a proper turkey starter from Purina. The problem is whether or not the local manager iw illing to do it. Some of them are too stupid to understand the concept of a guaranteed sale..
