My painted turkey book came in!

This happened today. Got 7 new turkey additions (and a bonus ameraucana chick). They are out of a grizzled blue painted project. Some will be marbled slate and hopefully some will be painted slate or grizzled slate painted. Turkey math strikes again!

My oldest has had her FFA advisor trying to get her to get a market turkey, since our fair won't let the kids sell a heritage turkey as a market animal at the sale, so I relented when I saw a brand new batch of bbw poults at the Big R store. They hadn't gotten pinions and still had their egg teeth, so I knew they had just come. I also know that a lot of the feed store places don't understand that poults and chicks have different feed requirements so they feed them the same things on the display floor. I picked the ones that seemed the most active in the tub. I got her 4, so there are backup poults. They have all integrated with my newly hatched chicks, and are eating, drinking, and figured out where the infrared heater is. Even those chunky bbw are cute when they are tiny, although even as newly hatched, they seem bigger than heritage poults. Let's hope the kids get their birds to do well at fair this year!

Hens are starting to work all the nest boxes. Will be adding a fake egg in each nest tomorrow. Gave each pen a Quail egg Soufflet today, had an over abundancy of Quail eggs. All my different birds go crazy over them, I like giving the hens a little boost/treat before egg laying and going broody. They are all looking really good going into mating. Going to try to leave incubators unplugged for turkeys this spring, hoping to get everything I need this year from Broodys. Just won't have the larger jakes with that extra month or so of growth for Thanksgiving birds. So, we'll see how it goes, that's my thoughts now let's see if incubators stay cold after those hens start laying.
