A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Congrats Ralph!

For some reason my chicks are pretty quiet. They never were before.
This latest hatch was different then the ones before for some reason also, before I always set chickens with the turkeys and this time the turkeys absolutely attacked all the chicks, Nothing I did protected the chicks, I expect some pecking and such but this was different, I fixed the problem by taking the poults out and placing them with some 2 week old chicken chicks, for some reason they all get along just fine... Weird.

That is weird I have never seen turkey attack chicks like that. I know that chickens will attack a sick chicken.

Agreed, I wondered if perhaps it was because they weren't "hatched" together, the turkeys under the broody ad the chicks in the incubator, but they did all hatch on the same day

I can't imagine. I hatched some turkey several days ago then a couple of Welsumers and I put the chicks in with the turkey and no problems. Hopefully they will get better about them.
Maybe they were just so small they did not know what they were?

I sure hope they do not fight.

I just moved my last weeks hatch to the shed. 3 turkey and 3 creamettes. And, well. hoping the DW does not notice, I went to Runnings today and they had 2 for 1 turkey poults BBB and BBW, I could not decide if I should get a white or a bronze so I got 2 of each.. Which are in the shed with my hatched ones now, (fingers crossed on the disease)

I know it is not smart, but they were so cute. When I went to take mine out I checked butts and had to pasty butts, so I cleaned with warm water (in the kitchen sink, another thing we hope DW does not learn) and used Olive oil on their cute lil behinds.

I have a hatcher full of fuzzy butts right now, I think I have 2-4 toads, 4 turkeys and at least one little creamette girl!

It is hard to say what I have right now they are no holding still for me to count them.

Had a taxing cinco de mayo hatch.

Lost a broody that should have hatched this weekend today.

Blue slate broody had at least 3 fuzzy butts hatched today.

Had a terrible week at work. Next week at work is a 7 days 14 hours a day grind.

So tonights beverage is bud selects and some apple pie shine.

got home from work today for lunch went to check incubators....and the incubator full of eggs had quit working! the fan was still going but it wasnt heating. temp was at 77 degrees...as quickly as possible i switched all the eggs to the good still air incubator and got them warming back up. hopefully they will be ok...time will tell. i had rio grande eggs, royal palm and some mix eggs that will be narragansett/rio and bronze/rio

Oh no!

Our electric went off for a while last night (thunderstorm with high winds). I have 3 bators running, one was in lockdown with chicks hatching. I have chicken and quail eggs incubating, including shipped Tolbunt polish eggs and shipped Serama eggs from exhibition stock. Also my own Midget White turkey eggs, and shipped Blue Slate turkey eggs.

I was trying not to freak when the electric went out. Fortunately it was back on in a couple hours. I had covered up the bator where the chicks were hatching, just leaving the vent uncovered, and they were fine.

I really need a generator on hand.
