A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Can you move the hen to another place? Not that, that would work.

How old is the hen? I have a terrible time with yearlings. They want to go broody but just refuse to commit to it. I had to throw out a dozen eggs yesterday because a yearling hen thought she was broody for a week then gave up. They had started to develop, they had blood but not much more.

I tired to make it easier for her and took the other turkeys out of the pen she was in, al she did them was pace back and forth and want to be with the others.

I bought 2 Cochin the other day so I had something reliable to hatch eggs. I would definitely give the turkey chicken eggs. I agree wasting turkey eggs is just too costly! I wish I had taken the turkey eggs from under the broody and given her chicken eggs.

Of course, I am doing so poorly with the turkey eggs in the incubator, it really does not matter.

We have a half acre the Turkeys and Chickens run together, no place to remove the hen to at this time. These both are yearlings so I know the dangers of allowing them to set, I worry about that too and have used one of my broodys and have another going broody as we speak, thought about giving her some of the turkey eggs in the incubator, but she is also a first time broody, Our issue is we are going on vacation in June, albeit it will only be for a little over a week but still, I have our neighbors set up to gather eggs and feed the flock but didn't want them to have to deal with gathering the turkey eggs and turning them and such, might have to just give up on those eggs for a week, if I can get the one hen to set she would have them hatched before I leave.

Oh the decisions we have to make lol

I know, it is so hard to decide what to do when we want babies.

I just left an egg out in a nest because I am going away for a few weeks, and my wife will have to pick eggs and stuff.

I was hoping a hen would go broody before I left and just take my chances with the eggs.

I am going to let the one that lays in the old brooder box try and set, how many eggs should I save before giving them to her? Or flip side, should I just put them all out there and let her decide ( I have 3 as we speak)? Temps are for the next couple weeks high sixties during the day, mid 40's at night

I would put them out there for her, I would think she would go broody between 8-14 eggs. Big range, I know.

If you want her to go sooner and with less eggs to ruin, give her a couple fake eggs, she will most likely kick them out when she goes broody.
