Is there a way to set one to be accurate?

Sodium chloride is the salt that will produce the 75% humidity point. Using magnesium chloride instead will produce the 33% humidity point. The 33% humidity standard can be purchased from various sources and is in my opinion a more useful standard than the 75% humidity standard.

Unfortunately cheap hygrometers will only allow setting the humidity at a single point if at all. The most accurate results will be from setting the calibration at both 33% and 75% humidity.

The wet bulb thermometers offer the most accurate relative humidity readings as long as the "sock" is kept clean. Clogging the "sock" with dried solids pulled from the water will cause false readings with a wet bulb thermometer. Using distilled water should prevent the "sock" from plugging up.

Well thr grind week of work is over.

122 hours in a week.

During the week. Had 1 broody that hatched at least 3 poults.

Found 1 in the yard on its back thought had passed. Picked up started moving placed in bator. Checked on after couple hours was moving decent. Got up in morning had passed.

Hatched 5 of 6 bourbon red eggs in incubator.

So between broodies and incubation have 32 poults.

Major storm came thru last night and destroyed 2 of my broody pens. So those hens with poults are ranging

My royal palms are still setting. Should have hatched wed. But haven't. Gotta try to figure out how to get them off nest. They are A little over protective. Lost my palm tom. Those and chocolates are what I wanted to hatch to make flock bigger. Only hatched 2 palms so far.

Had 1 broody leave a protected nest and just disappeared. So 3 hens lost.

Tonight major relax.

Bev. Busch light. Lots of it.

Hopefully catch up on sleep.

Man! Crazy week you have had. Sorry to hear of the hiccups. Hopefully you keep hatching out the babies from your broodies!

Thanks

Got some needed sleep.

Got 1 brood pen fixed this morning. Found 1 of the ranging hens from it she is running with 5 poults none of them hers.

1 hens with 7 poults can't find.

Lost a spanish black broody. But fiund about a 2 day old chick in the yard running around.

Broody bourbon red has 3 poults with her. She was moving them to the pasture this morning.

One other broody has hatched 2 today.

Royal palm broodies nest was a bust eggs were starting to pop. Got them out of it and cleaning up that mess.

Have 2 broodies left setting give them til weekend if nothing hatches gonna move them off nest.

I had a lot of predator losses last year.

So I kinda went hen crazy this spring. Had 17 hend and 7 toms.

At one point had 14 broody hens.

3 had nests destroyed but they made it.

4 have been taken by predators. Including black Spanish mentioned earlier.

The slate hen with 7 babies nowhere to be found she has been on farm since a day old she probably has a good spot to hide.

Have no broodies went and broke the last two had 1 poult. But I think 4 of the 5 with ranging hen are theirs cause they are bourbon poults.

And what no incubator :th. Couldn't fathom that.

Hate to say it but addicted.
