A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Chaos they look great. Now those guys have some fuzzy butts. They are still so tiny!

Aurora, are all your eggs now in the big incubator? You have it dialed in right! And I agree, no wonder it takes awhile for turkeys to hatch, those shells are tough. I'm thinking you need to periodically hatch a few silks to use as babysitters. :D

They have grown tons though thats the funny thing. Fuzzy butts? Yes very fuzzy. They are getting there feathers in and there butts look like somebody took a bunch of the white dandelion helicopter things and glued them to there butts.

Yep. All eggs are now in the big bator. I only use my hova bator to hatch in now. So far, so good :)

I'd love to routinely hatch some silkies as babysitters but right now, these baby silkies are all I've got lol. If they're both girls, it'll be tough to hatch any more!

Did you see the very blonde poult there in the picture? It's in the 3rd picture in the back left corner. Hard to see cause the lousy picture but it's very obvious once you do see it.

Memphis you are correct. This was Mars 10 minutes after we got home from a long weekend in town. Monthly grocery shopping and annual dental appointments for everyone. It was cold and snowy when we got home this evening so I went up got her and 5 minutes after we got to the house she jumped on the bed and pressed herself against me

She has that look! Yesterday when I had to separate the boys and girls I had to catch the girls with a landing net. All of them were pains and did not want to be caught. Ethel was not with the turkeys she was with the chickens on her roost in the coop. (her roost is about 4 inches higher than I can reach)

I walked in and could just grab her toes with one hand, I did not want to pull her down like that and risk hurting her. So I got the net to pull her down. The indignation of using a net on her was too much for her. So she jumped from roost to roost to avoid me. Then she jumped down and still was trying to run from me, I had to block her with the net and get my hand on her.

But once I picked her up and started carrying her I got that same look of contentment. She just kind of cooed the love you coo and had that spoiled look. She really does like being held and played with, even if she puts up token resistance. When we "capture" her and set her on a table by us she just stands there, never trying to leave and soaking up the pets. Or if she is in my lap she will sit there for 30 minutes or more without being held, just enjoying the attention.

So even if she is not a lapper she is close to one. Whew, long post to just comment on what a great picture that was from turkeyparent.

I think my biggest surprise with my two hens is how they seek out attention. Sounds like Ethel & Ethel Jr. are lappers, given the chance.

Did you see Chaos' new chicken pics? Looks like they have cotton balls glued on their butts.

I'm putting off agility training with Daisy for awhile. She's hit that hard molt stage. I'm waiting till she gets through it...she's a bit futtsy right now. I'm sure all those feathers coming in is annoying.

Aurora you're doing so good on the hatch! The babies look great, but you really need a better camera!

Are you going to post any of the pictures on Porters to see what they think they are? I am planning to post those I do not know there and record the genotype that I get from there. I might even make a "picture book" and note the name and genotype of the babies so I can learn who is who. That way I can sound halfway intelligent when sell them.

I have 17 of the 20 eggs I put into the hatcher hatch. I am happy with that. However, I only had 17 out of 28 I put in the incubator hatch. Tomorrow I will open the 3 I have left and see if I can figure out what happened. I doubt they will hatch now, but they get 24 hours more to try. This morning when I came out to the dining room the hatcher humidity had dropped to 11% So that might have the shells to hard to get out of. It is back to 41% now and was mid 40's when I went to bed.
