She has that look! Yesterday when I had to separate the boys and girls I had to catch the girls with a landing net. All of them were pains and did not want to be caught. Ethel was not with the turkeys she was with the chickens on her roost in the coop. (her roost is about 4 inches higher than I can reach)
I walked in and could just grab her toes with one hand, I did not want to pull her down like that and risk hurting her. So I got the net to pull her down. The indignation of using a net on her was too much for her. So she jumped from roost to roost to avoid me. Then she jumped down and still was trying to run from me, I had to block her with the net and get my hand on her.
But once I picked her up and started carrying her I got that same look of contentment. She just kind of cooed the love you coo and had that spoiled look. She really does like being held and played with, even if she puts up token resistance. When we "capture" her and set her on a table by us she just stands there, never trying to leave and soaking up the pets. Or if she is in my lap she will sit there for 30 minutes or more without being held, just enjoying the attention.
So even if she is not a lapper she is close to one. Whew, long post to just comment on what a great picture that was from turkeyparent.
I called the guy that has Penguin and Ginger this morning.
He says they are happy birds. He has them inside right now, in a 40x80 barn with 3 peacocks. They have hay bales and stanchion frames to sit on. He says Ginger has turned into a lapper. He brings him feed and he jumps in his lap and eats it while he holds him. His sister comes to visit ginger a couple times a day.
Penguin is a little more stand offish but still a nice pet he says.. Penguin is going to become a tolerant at the least, I bet!
Aurora, I agree, your hatch rate is amazing! So when are you setting the next batch, or have you.....all I remember is your going to end up with seventy something poults. Are you selling them at under a week old? I was talking to a guy here who keeps them for two weeks before they go to their new homes. He seemed to think since they are delicate he wanted them to be a little more hardy prior to going to new homes.
What about your creamers....have you set some of those too??
Ralphie....I read about Coffee with that little guy down her shirt. Yep....she's already spoiling them! Love it!
