A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Guys so I'm getting the 3 year old turkeys, when does a hen start to decrease her egg production? Like age wise? How long can they lay for?

They say toms verility goes down after about 3 years old.
I had some 3 year olds last year laid as good as my year olds. My older hens went broody quicker and seemed to be better mothers.

Saw where some on here had 8 year old hens still breeding. So you will be fine.

Good choice on the palms. I like them they are eye xandy to me. I have 7 hens and 3 toms in palms.

Thanks a lot for everything I think I'll do great with the turkeys

Alex, you'll really enjoy them! When I got mine they were adults. I spent a lot of time sitting in their pen feeding them treats. They will bond with humans. Mine are both lapped now.

Feedman....was going to go up to Ste. Genevieve this weekend until I saw the weather forcast! Yeeks. Decided to stay south of the Mason Dixon. Supposed to be way warmer next weekend!

I hope so, and yes I've heard they're really tame. I'm NC and we're expecting snow Monday.

My niece is in Charlotte . I saw your getting some rough weather. We are getting sleet/snow here. Never a good thing. But it will be back into the 60's next week.

I'm biased. Royal Palms is what I have too. About longevity, I got my first tom as an adult, don't know for sure how old but probably only 1 or 2. I had him 13 years, he was fertile until the last year. I have no idea how common that is. He was still healthy and active but not fertile. I was moving at the time and my brother took in all my birds until I could get situated at the new place. He didn't have electric fence, and while at his place, a young black bear climbed a tree and dropped down into the poultry fenced area. The old tom confronted him, puffed up and displaying, and the poor guy got his neck broken. Apparently it did unnerve the bear though, because after it swiped at the turkey it ran away, so the tom may have saved the rest of them.
